St. Anton Ossuary

in #photography6 years ago

This morning I visited the historic place in town called Kobarid.

On the hill by the town, there is a church from 17 century which Italians renovated and transformed into a charnel house.

They collect the bones of more than 7000 fallen soldiers on the Soca front in the world war one.

Here is the last of the 14 stations of the Cross by the road leading to the ossuary.

There are some graves even on the outside of the walls.

Thank you for posting @oldtimer.

A visit to these memorials/museums can be such a poignant moment and in this case made all the more so by its imposing enviorment. So sombre and yet a benefitting resting place for these noble ones.

Amazing photographs.

Greetings to you and your good lady. ^__^

Did I see you over at Whaleshares?

Cheers!

Thanks for stopping by.
I can't find enough time even for steemit. Unfortunately.

Amazing photos thanks for sharing:)

That’s a very powerful monument ! The surrounding is astonishing.

Interesting monument! Are the bones stored in the church? Is there any memorial that you can visit? Or is the monument actually The Memorial?

Hey buddy how are you going? in reality with you always learn something new, I did not know an ossuary, and today thanks to you, when I hear about ossuary, I could also say, all the shots are impressive, I love the stairs and the church where I read "ora for us "but summarizing all are spectacular to form a post-war history album, since you are explaining each shot, I congratulate your good eye to capture good images. greetings @oldtimer

Una Iglesia con Huesos de 7000 soldados caidos @oldtimer debe ser un lugar increible, felicidades por tan buenas fotografias

Thank you.

the temple looks very lovely. Every post of yours is amazing

Actually your artistic photo was very eye catching!!!

Excellent photographic work as every day friend, I know you do your best to bring us always excellent moments which take me to fly with my mind.

Regards!

Very impressive! The last shot is spectacular with the mountain rising behind the church. Your artistic attempt was also quite successful with the rivets and the arches!

It is a great gesture of the church to collect the remains of those soldiers to offer them in some way the eternal rest and keep the memory of their effort! The scenery of the place is amazing just like the pictures :)
