I have started taking pictures as another artistic outlet last 2010, back when G+ was still a thing. From taking images of sunsets, landscapes, to everything mundane, what really stuck in my heart is taking black and white or monochromatic photographs.
In 2016, I started this 1000 Grays Project with an aim to capture one image a day, but I am such a home person that I don't go out very often. I can even stay at home for a month without going out even once. So just like that, the project ended in just a month.
For this new season though, instead of giving myself the pressure, I decided to only post whenever I have a picture to post, I don't need to go out everyday and tire myself out. And I believe I will someday finish this project with much more enthusiasm. I am actually a bit discouraged with my photographs, but we start somewhere, don't we?
Without further ado, let me share to you the first 25 photographs I have taken for this project.
Being hard to oneself is something I struggle daily, but I always try to enjoy the journey in taking photographs than to curate my feed to peoples' liking. I just tell myself to take whatever I find beautiful and interesting no matter how simple they are because I know I am still training my eyes and confidence in delivering more interesting photographs.
For this project, I am only using my mobile camera. I currently have a Huawei P20 mobile which has a dual camera co-engineered by Leica. It has a color sensor and a beautifully sharp monochromatic sensor that is 20 megapixels.
I stick to the latter. I shoot in black and white and sometimes post a #SOOC (straight out of camera) photo for an entry. If not, I just use simple tools in Instagram like the contrast, lux, structure, and a bit of sharpness. We want them photos poppin', don't we?
I currently post my images in Instagram because I don't like posting one single photo with very short discription in my blog via @steepshot. Although I do have another account for that at @ohmundanemusings, I no longer use it.
My username in Instagram is @1000grays_ if you fancy following my journey there. I also have my personal Instagram account where I post colorful and beautiful things like sunsets, paintings, and people I love at @olaivart_. Make sure it has underscore after the name olaivart.
I will keep you guys updated and will post the next 25 photographs when the planets align. My account is still a baby thus I only have 30 photographs now. I am just happy and contented with the rules and expectations I have set for myself, and hopefully will be able to finish this project gracefully.
Show some love, yes?
ON THE OTHER HAND...

I will end this post with this beautiful landscape image of Impasug-ong, Malaybalay, Bukidnon, Philippines which I took yesterday after spending time with @katiepals' family, away from the buzz of the city, for 5 days.
Excited to share more of it on my next post!
Have a great day everyone!
Namaste ✨
These are amazing photos. I love the rain photos, the drops caught in mid air are so striking.
I like the use of shadows as well. I have begun toying with the use of shadow as character in some of my pieces as well.
Thanks a lot, @donnadavisart! I fell in love with my phone once again because if the rain photos, most specially the one you mentioned.
And yes to contrasty art pieces! They give so much depth and mystery.
