📸 Minneapolis in color - history at night: Mill Ruins - 35W Bridge - Gold Medal Flour Mill - Original work

in #photography7 years ago

Here are a couple shots I took at night in Minneapolis. I found some of the only colors the city has to offer.

You may all have heard about the 35W bridge that sadly collapsed in 2007 taking the lives of 13 people :( It was replaced with a state of the art replacement which has LEDs along its entire length, which they change colors for various reasons (red, white, blue for 4th of July, purple when prince died, and so on). On this night it happened to be blue, though not for a specific cause. The light that it put out was pretty amazing, since not much of Minneapolis has much color like Times Square does, so this really grabbed my attention. (the 35W bridge is the the lit up one behind the older arch bridge). You can read a lot more about this bridge here

Next up are the mill ruins. Sitting on the Mississippi river, this is the site where a flour mill (among other industries which used the power of water to run their mills) it is now a historical site which is being preserved. Wikipedia

Finally is another landmark of Minneapolis. On the left is the Guthrie Theater, which lights up a beautiful Blue and Gold at night. The right side is part of the mill ruins as mentioned above, but this part still stands with its iconic lit up sign on top.

And just to add a little more color to a normally drab Minneapolis, a church was lit up purple.

i like it!!

Thank you! IMO there was never anything really colorful to shoot around MPLS aside from greenery and trees, so when I did find some colors it was rare. (especially the church lit up purple)

Wow great pictures.. the light is amazing and i really love your long time shutter speed pictures :)
