A lot of turists that come to UAE are impressed by all the skyscrapers, endless roads and shopping malls, and a lot of them miss the most beautiful building. It is Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
Mosque area is covering around 12 hectares and can accomodate around 41000 worshipers on bigger occasions.
The design of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque has been inspired by Persian, Mughal, and the Alexandrian Mosque of Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque in Egypt and was designed by Syrian architect Yousef Abdelky.
The Mosque has a lot of unique features. The carpet, covering the main prayer room is considered the biggest carpet in the world. The carpet itself weights around 35 tonnes.
The main chandelier is third biggest in the world and has around 10m diameter.
The 96 columns in the main prayer hall are clad with marble and inlaid with mother of pearl, one of the few places where you will see this craftsmanship.
In total 3 different styles of caligraphy were used through the mosque decoration Naskhi, Thuluth and Kufic.
For all the tourists that are planning to visit UAE, skip one of the endless malls and check it out. It is well worth it, seeing it in all its glory.
