Swimming Under The Milky Way

in #photography7 years ago

Memories from this day will always be welcomed.
My family and I spent it at a friends house in a small place on the Adriatic coastal road, called Devcic Draga. They are renting some apartments there and they asked me if I could take some photos so that they can advertise it.

In return they offered all day long swimming on a private beach, boat trip, grilled fresh fish and a bed for the night...

How can you say no to that? :)

After the dinner, a couple glasses of wine, and after everyone went to bed, I decided to try some astrophotography shots. Conditions were not ideal due to some light pollution and a half bright moon. I waited for the moon to descend a bit to get a darker sky.

In this period I spent most of the time in similar positions to the one on the photo, gazing at the sky. The only sounds were crickets, wave's quiet rustling and occasional fish making the surface splash... On a night like this, it's a waste to sleep indoors...

Anyway, when I was finished with photos and placed my camera in the backpack, I took a short swim. As I was enjoying the peaceful summer sea, I wondered how much nicer would all this experience be if there was no light pollution. I would probably be able to catch the Milky Way reflection on the surface.

Well, that should be my goal for the oncoming Milky Way season, finding a place like that...

Hope you like it,

Cheers,
Nino.

Stunning photograph! Sounds like your family and friends had a great time there.

I have been hunting for a good spot to photograph the milky way but have been having a lot of trouble with light polution. Looks like you made the best of it :)

It's getting really hard to find a spot. It's an organizational issue as well. I mean, you have to drive couple of hours to get to the spot and that's not always possible if you have a regular day job, given that you will most probably be taking astrophotography during the night... :)
So you have to rely on weekends. Then, it's the weather you have to look after and you have to check the moon phase...

I think its been my biggest issue that I haven't gone far enough away to get away from all the light.

Holy! That photo is awesome! Good work. I wish we were able to see the night sky like that with our eyes too!

Yeah... We can never see it that way of course. I don't know if you've had a chance to see it from a really, really dark location, but it still looks quite fascinating. It's always a treat because locations like that are always quiet and peacful. So, in combination with that sky... I don't know, maybe it's just me, but it always brings some strange feelings within me...
Well, you are close. Visit some of Croatian islands and you should be able to find a spot like that. And I am sure the Alps are not missing it either... :)

Hello @nkera!

First of all, your "milky way galaxy shot" is astounding! I love how your compose this image to include the human figured looking at the amazing sky.
