Larch Madness in the North Cascades

The Annual Turning of the Larches

Every year in the fall, way up high in the mountains, the coniferous larch tree sheds its normal green pines and turns bright orange and yellow in the process. This is commonly known around here as larch madness, simply because people go mad over the striking display. For good reason too, it's one of the most beautiful autumn displays you can find here in the mountains. After a few days of research we had found a place that was well off the beaten path and rarely traveled to by photographer. It was a long 26 mile loop trail in the North Cascades, which took us three days total that was filled to the brim with the orange and yellow trees. The sight was so striking, it almost didn't seem real.

All of the photos here were just from our first campsite on the first day. We had two more days of larch goodness to see and I can't wait to share those photos with you soon enough...
