Of all photo types, portraits probably get boring the fastest. But there’s no reason not to push the creative envelope and get abstract!
Next time you’re taking your friend’s pic, try standing above them. And instead of fretting over getting the right body parts in the shot, concentrate more on raw objects and colors, and how them interact.
Yes, your image will be less recognizable, but the abstraction will gain you a sense of balance and a new way of seeing the familiar.

Re the blurred red, first idea that crossed my mind was the Chinese national flag ;-)Nice composition. The three colors contrasted by the grey concrete is really effective. Found your blog via a resteem from @phoblographer. Will follow you now :)

the Chinese flag is hilarious! but it's just a reflection sticker on top of the metal horizontal beam I used to balance my hands... somehow it got caught in the photo :)
