Shadows create beautiful contrasts and can add abstraction to your images. Interesting thing about them is that they are different depending on the time of day—the lower the sun, the longer the shadows cast by objects in its way.
I climbed a football stadium goal-post (it was scary, I actually thought I'll fall off—but the grass below would've been a soft landing!). The sun was beginning to set and the shadows were extending endlessly. I loved all the lines I was seeing and how they were interlacing, casting a shape that seemed big and unfamiliar.
For your next photo, shoot shadows. Lamp poles are really fun to start with, because they are straight and they cast an elegant shadow on the ground. They also move like clock dials with the movement of the sun, so watch them grow and shrink as the day passes!
What objects' shadows do you like photographing?
