We have a similar building and situation in Athens, MINION (from the French Mignon actually, which means cute) . Opened in 1934 as a kiosk and became a huge shopping mall, the first one at the time. In 1998, it went bankrupt. After almost 20 years since it closed down, someone bought it and started construction again - you cannot imagine how happy the people in Athens were...it was a symbol for us! And then, guess what...the crisis came, construction stopped, and now it's there, still abandoned, half-done and far away from its former glory... :( I read that they plan on re-opening in 2018 but it seems kinda of unlikely. Unfortunately the page is only in Greek and German https://el.wikipedia.org/wiki/%CE%9C%CE%B9%CE%BD%CE%B9%CF%8C%CE%BD_(%CE%BA%CE%B1%CF%84%CE%AC%CF%83%CF%84%CE%B7%CE%BC%CE%B1)
