The magnificient tower bridge and the Big Ben

Now, before I start writing this article i will like to say a few things first. Any amount this post makes will go directly into some charity organizations. Due to the hardship and poverty that is killing most of us especially those countries in Africa, I and some concerned people has decided to do this in our next three post.               The Big Ben

The Big Ben is the nickname of a bell that hangs at the northern end of the house of parliament in westminister London, England. The tower is officially known as Elizabeth Tower, it was also previously known as the clock tower. When the queen of England celebrated her Diamond Jubilee (Queen Elizabeth II) in September 2012, it was now named after her as tribute.
The clock was designed by Edmund Beckett Denison and the clock took about 13 years to build and was finally completed in 1859 and has worked since then expect for when it broke down for a few months in 1976.

                                                                      Few Facts About The Clock

1. The bell was originally meant to be called Royal Victoria
2. Big ben's first broadcast was made by BBC during New Year Eve radio broadcast in 1923
3. The foundation stone was laid on September 28, 1843 and the foundation were dug 10 ft.
4. The Big Ben weighs 13.7 tonnes and stands 7.2 ft tall and it also has a diameter of 8.9 ft
5. The clock itself is accurate to within one second
6. the musical note it makes when struck is E

                                                                    About The Tower Bridge

The tower bridge has stood over the River Thames in London since 1894 and it is one of the most recognizable bridges in the world. The bridge deck is accessible to both vehicles and pedestrians. The bridge also consists of two bridges towers tied together at the upper level by two walkways. It was designed to withstand the horizontal tension forces
The construction of the bridge started in 1886 and it took the workers eight years with five major contractors to build it. They are:

1. Sir John Jackson(who built the foundations)
2. Baron Armstrong(focused on the hydraulics)
3. William Webster
4. Sir William Avrol and co.
   

The also employed a total number of 432 construction workers. The resident engineer's name was EW crutwell
The bridge was officially opened to the public on June 20 1894 to be precise by the prince of wales. It has also featured in publicity for the 2012 summer Olympics being held in London. The most recent renovation was made in 2016 from 1 October to 30 December. The bridge is 800 feet in length with two towers each 213 high, built on piers. The bridge is so popular that some people mistake it for the London bridge. It also attracts people because of its magnificent structure. Just like it attracted me. it is so tempting so I had to write about it to show the world the beauty which London and the World as a whole holds.
