Chapter 1: Graveyard dating....it's a thing

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

I admit it. I like to hang out in graveyards. And I brings dates along. It's true. There is just something about cemeteries that draws me in. Maybe it's the ambiance: quite, peaceful, mysterious, spooky. There is nothing like laying out on a blanket with your honey under the shade of an old crypt......

Luckily I live in **NYC **and there is no shortage of beautiful old cemeteries to explore. One of the oldest is Calvary Cemetery. It opened in 1848 and is primarily Catholic I believe. It spans over 365 acres across Queens and Long Island City. It is ENORMOUS. It's divided into 4 sections: Old Calvary/First, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. To date I have only visited Old Calvary which is located in Long Island City.

What I like to do most in graveyards is explore gravestones and learn about the "residents". Sometimes the stories are heartbreaking and sad , sometimes beautiful . I also love to take photos of interesting statuary. Here are a few from Calvary Cemetery. Enjoy!
