Utah is well known for its national parks and its beautiful mountains, and there's no denying that there is more than enough gorgeous landscape fodder for any enthusiastic photographer!

With all the bigger parks famous for their many beauties, it's also easy for pretty awesome places to get overlooked entirely.

One of those places is Fantasy Canyon.

Fantasy Canyon is literally in the middle of nowhere, a little ways away from Vernal -- a tiny town that's kind of in the middle of nowhere. LOL

With all this "nowhere" it's hard to imagine this hidden gem, but nevertheless, there it is.

Fantasy Canyon is actually pretty small. One of my friends cautioned me not to get lost, but I really don't think you could get lost in Fantasy Canyon if you tried! It's such a small area, and I actually wish there were more of it to enjoy because it's just so unique.

I got there well before dawn, and once I could see distinct shapes I started shooting. I like showcasing the curious shapes of these natural formations. These were created by the erosion of quartzrose sandstone. They can be fragile, but they're testaments of the passage of time.

I definitely stayed past just the dawn, and will eventually show off the full three-dimensional shapes of these works of natural art. But for now, enjoy the tantalizing and haunting hints of these odd creations.
