The Rotary Lifestyle

in #photography7 years ago

There are many cars in this world, but I have always loved the rotaries. Growing up, it was all about the RX-7s. As I got older, and the RX-8 came out, I knew eventually that I would want one of these cars. After an exhaustive amount of research, and learning about all of the quirks, I finally pulled the trigger. The car was a 2011 GT, second generation, and the last year that they were sold in North America.

I watched a ton of YouTube videos and read forum posts prior to purchasing and knew what I was getting myself into. It has been an interesting car to care for, with it requiring an almost parent/child like relationship. Oil must be topped up every couple of fills, and at least once per day of driving it, you should redline it at 9000 RPM to help burn the carbon buildup off.

In the winter, now that I have it in storage, it is recommended to start the car at least once every few weeks. This helps to keep the apex seals lubricated until you pull it out for operation again. I have found these times to be bittersweet, it's fun to visit the car and get it started, but knowing that it is still several months away from being driven again is sad.

Oh well, just another four months, and she will be back on the road. :)
