Hello my friends,
The Kasbah is a unique kind of medina, or Islamic city (Arabic : Al-qaṣabah "القصبة" meaning citadel). the kassbah is located on the Mediterranean coast, the site was inhabited at least from the 6th century BC when a Phoenician trading post was established there, the Kasbah built at the end of the 16th century, dating back to the Ottoman period.
The Kasbah is the city of Algeria in the Turkish Ottoman era and is the seat of the Sultan and was built on the mountain overlooking the Mediterranean Sea to be a military base whose mission is to defend the entire Algerian country.
It is built on a Turkish-Ottoman style resembling a maze in the overlapping of its alleys and streets, you can be lost if walk in it alone, and there are several water sources are located in special places in streets where people can bring water easily.
in addition the kasbah contains several palaces and mosques, like famous Ketchaoua mosque and sultan palace which known as Dar Al Sultan.
this picture show Ketchaoua Mosque
All houses have a open square space in the middle of the house without a roof, known as courtyard contains fountain of water. all houses was built in a distinctive Islamic architecture, and have small windows decorated with beautiful iron bars. in Kassbah houses very close between each other, so its very easy to jump From one house to another, even people can cross the whole kasbah through the roofs of houses. The population of the Kasbah is approximately 50.000 inhabitants.
I want to share with you old and new pictures to show you how this amazing legacy stayed till today
