Whilst walking my dog I noticed how particularly mysterious the woods seemed in the wet, dank morning light.
I particularly like the old tree stumps with their mossy areas and various stages of rot. Mini micro climates that with a little bit of imagination could be busy little worlds within our world....

Great pictures ... the red mushrooms in the last shot are Scarlet Elf Cups (Sarcoscypha coccinea) - they are edible and delicious! Some guide books list them as inedible, but this is incorrect. They may not be especially good for you in very large quantities, but they make a great garnish to any salad and can also be lightly fried :D
