BLAKEHURST RESIDENCE - HOUSE DESIGN

Sharing a design that was built under my own business on the side of my full-time job as a project designer. Clients were very happy with the built design. I would like to have done a few things differently, such as grass/ a tree in the courtyard, certain window openings etc. A happy client is a good client ;)

The project is located in a urban setting overlooking a Bay and Park in Sydney. The brief was to design a house for a married couple with 2 growing children. They sought after a house that was moderately affordable by using standard materials and a design that had a contemporary feel.

The answer was to establish a courtyard to the North side of the building towards the park for natural light and ventilation, with a outlook for all parts of the open living areas. The living areas would also comprise of a kids play area towards the front of the house. The main spaces arranged around this courtyard would offer a house inside that feels outside. The roof structure high above the courtyard is punctured with a simple square void, opening to the sky.

A surrounding solid white fence with planting will help to provide privacy and protection from the Park. A void on first floor allows for views to the trees from the ground floor, creating a vertical space and connection with the park. The beauty is further enhanced by a swimming pool to the rear yard, where it can be seen throughout.

I like the interior it's elegant looking.. In the living room with curtains and vases it will be totally awesome.. :-) on the outside part it would be great to see more green plants.. The design was perfect totally awesome.. :-)

Thanks. Yes I agree. The client wanted low maintenance. I tried to push them for a evergreen tree in the courtyard with grass but he didnt want it. Overall we got the courtyard which took some convincing haha Some more australian native plants would have been perfect. The original drawings they gave me were terrible. It took a fair bit of convincing to change the design, which made it quite a difficult project at times but in the end it turned out quite nice. The sound of the water feature in the pool makes the spaces feel tranquil.

What a dream! I want that too 😵 I'm sure the climate there adds to the appeal and I love how everything is so open.

Nice! That pool is pretty sweet too.
