Track and detect photo theft with PIXSY

in #photography8 years ago

We are publishing every day hundreds and hundreds of pictures on Steemit. Some, we copy, and many other come from our personal stock of photos, taken with love and care with our camera, smartphone, etc... But it's just too easy for anyone to right-click, copy the photo and re-use them without even a mention on their own websites, or for worse shady goals.

So here is a website which might come handy to anyone who does not want their photos to be stolen, or just curious enough to see where his or her photos have landed on the world wide web. It's called PIXSY and it's rather easy to use.

SET UP AN ACCOUNT

UPLOAD YOUR PHOTOS

You can connect your Instagram, Flickr, or other account directly with Pixsy, which will try to match the photo with anything found online.

In my case, I uploaded a few pictures from my blog http://svelanskroun.canalblog.com/ (which is the oldest blog I have, so it is highly possible that some of my pictures have been stolen and recycled on other webs).

WAIT FOR MATCHES

Now, Pixsy will do all the work for you, and scan the picture and try to match it with anything found online resembling your own photo. I guess that in the case of holiday photos, you might receive a fair amount of fake matches, but I think it's worth the wait and the try!

I'll let you know if Pixsy encounters any match in my case, and if you do, I encourage you to post the result here as well! Even though I hope it won't find too many matches :)

Very cool! Thanks for this info

Hope it will be useful!

It is, thank you!

I do not believe in Copyright and don't care if someone uses my images. I do like to know if they are being used to massage my ego. We have found plenty of our images being used by Famous people over the years and simply thank them and remind them that they don't have to remove our watermark. Thanks to Metadata most are found right away. Create epic content and enjoy the benefits, don't spend time worrying about what others do. Guard your reputation by monitoring it with sites like Pixsy and Google search.

I guess that no one gives a damn about Copyright... until they find out their idea used, or recycled, to make millions. That happens very rarely though. But it's still worth keeping an eye out there to catch any opportunist.
