I Got a Job.....But I Can't Decide: Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort

in #photography7 years ago

Good evening you guys! I just wanted to pop in here and tell you about some recent developments in my everyday life.

As you guys all know I'm a food maker, photographer, and writer so as you can see, I like to stay very busy. Recently I've been scouting so possible job opportunities to add even more variety to my day and then to my posts for you guys. That's why I applied at last weekend's job fair at Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort here in Sandpoint Idaho where I'm currently spending the summer. I must say it was like a ghost town up there compared to when I last came, but that's because they haven't opened yet. As soon as summer season starts that place will be hopping.

Okay here's the thing, I am so indecisive guys and I need your help. I applied to about 4 positions and I got offers from 2 of them already! The problem is that I really like the sound of them both but they are sort of different. The first is a serving/waitressing spot at the Chimney Rock and the second is a job at their adorable little soup and sandwich cafe called Gourmandie. I'm leaning towards the latter for the fact that I know I've got plenty of experience in that type of thing (wink wink😉 ).

So, I'm asking you for your opinion on what I should choose. Tomorrow I'm meeting with the executives at Schweitzer to make my decision but I wanted you guys all to give me your thoughts first. Which one, that's the question??? Chimney Rock or Gourmandie Cafe?

not to sway your decision, but something about Gormandie just looks super cozy and wonderful. :))

That seems to be the crowd favorite - thanks so much @rangertx

Wow, nice sharing. You are really a photographer..I mean the photo is just great. For your job chosing, I have never been to there, so cannot give you much advice. But I think you should talk a bit more to the employer to understand the job nature, the working style before you really chose one.

Great recommendation, thanks so much @victorier

This post received a 47% upvote from @randowhale thanks to @gringalicious! For more information, click here!

Go for the one which will give you the most new experience (in places that you actually want to develope experience in) or pick the one which you think you'll enjoy the most. The latter sounds great, but that's me personally and I'm not you!

I really do think that this may be my most read post ever. People are actually commenting on questions posed in the post. Thanks so much for reading my post and then commenting @playfulfoodie

Not a problem! I know how tough these kind of decisions can be. I hope the comments will help you make a good decision :-)

pick the one which you think you'll enjoy the most. ...@playfulfoodie
I also wanted to write that for you. :) Good luck! @gringalicious

Maybe this can help (hopefully my math is about right)! lol

Work Value Formula =

happiness level (0-100%) * educational experience (0-100%) * salary (0-100%)

workload (0-100%)

I am impressed by such a thoughtful response @alexpmorris. Thank you so much!

hey no problem, just hope it helps you come to the best decision for you! :)

Love that equation man! Adding it to the repertoire :-)

glad you like it, didn't think it'd be such a hit! lol

Great equation! Definitely using that one in the future :)

Beautiful pictures..doing a great job...upvoted

Nice pic!

I appreciate that so much @wallsnow!

The Chimney Rock I've been to is very beautiful, but it's in North Carolina! I can't give you any advice here.

Chimney_Rock_State_Park-20080811.jpeg

I didn't even know there was one in NC. Thanks for the input @lexiconical!

Take the cafe position. I think it will be less stressful.

I was thinking the same, but as I've never tried either job I can't say. I'm so grateful for your advice @andrewdaines!

Oh I think working at a place called "Gourmandie Cafe" would totally suit you @gringalicious! Wow, Schweitzer in the summer is going to keep you hopping, not to mention the fact that you will be busy blogging along with working on top of the mountain. Good luck with whatever you choose!😊

Thanks so much @generikat! I'm going to keep your advice in mind.

@gringalicious
Thanks for sharing some pretty awesome pictures.
As far as the position, follow your heart and do what you think is right and most compatible with your schedule and lifestyle.

That's so kind. Thank you very much @breakingtonight!

You're very welcome! 😊

Gourmandie looks pretty. If both jobs are waitressing, aim for the bussy one. The $$ is in the tips.

Very true. I think the two are pretty similar as far as that. I'll definitely keep that in mind. Thanks @elteamgordo!

I'm not YOU, of course... but since you asked; I would definitely take the smaller place gig... in general, smaller venues draw people more likely to linger which-- in a ski resort-- will most likely mean better tips. Just a thought...

I think that's a great point. Thank you so much for taking the time @denmarkguy!

I would definitely go with the Gourmandie Cafe @gringalicious, as you get to keep up your cooking practice. instead of just handing out dishes.
Also you can keep making pictures of the food you create on the job, and write blog posts when you get back home :)

Are you taking this as a part-time thing? Because your blog seems to be kind of successful no?

You're very observant @erikdenoorman and I think you're right about the smaller venues. Oh, and yes I'll be sharing a lot!

I agree with you .

very beautiful @gringalicious

Thank you so much for commenting @silvia

I cant give you a recommendation on which job to take, but I sure love the scenery photos!! Such a Beautiful place!!! maybe... personally.. I would take the small quaint job, probably less stress?

Everybody seems to agree with you @izabellablue. Thanks so much for taking the time to read my post and to comment

My buddy @locoestaban lives in Twin Falls. Idaho is beautiful. My sister worked many years in Big Sky and now returns in the winter for vacation. She was married under the majestic peaks. Beautiful. You know, if it gives you joy, do go for it. It is beautiful country up there and you will always have us on steemit rooting for you.

Thanks so much @jacobts. It so awesome to know you are here rooting for me.

I guess I would choose the second one (Gourmandie Cafe) but thats my personal opinion :) Let me know which one you chose! :) Good luck :)

Thanks @traveldict. It looks like most every one has the same opinion. I really appreciate you taking the time to read my post and comment!

I'd suggest Gourmandie. I have never eaten at any restaurant there though, and I haven't even been to Schweitzer in about 15 years. Back when I used to ski regularly, I spent the vast majority of my time on Mt. Spokane.

Thanks for the suggestion @jacobtothe, I really appreciate it!

Looks wonderful, it would be so great to have these sights every day.

Yeah, I am really looking forward to the experience. Thanks @minnyfatty

Trust your intuition, you have it for a reason :)

You said it yourself, the Gourmandie suits you better ...

@snubbermike, thanks so much. That does seem to be the consensus here

Its probably not best to take career related decisions from strangers like us. You seems to be a strong person and I am sure you can decide what is best for your life. All the best.

Thanks @codebreaker. I see you point taking advice from a bunch of strangers. But the point was to encourage community engagement, and that is just such a cool part of steemit

Just because you said adorable I would go for the latter! Good luck in making a decision ;-)

Oh, thanks so much @amy-goodrich. I will keep you posted

Those are really good pictures there..

nice post and great pictures :) upvoted , followed & resteemed you might enjoy my blog would appreciate a resteem if you like it :) Snorkling with Whalesharks

Very nice photography.

Congratulations on the new job offers, @gringalicious!! Soup & sandwich café sounds like a more relaxed option in terms of the working environment and probably more in line with your own interests and passions? It seems like you're already leaning that way, so hopefully it will be the right choice for you! :) But, no matter what you choose, I wish you the best of luck with your new job! I hope you'll keep us all posted via Steemit! ;)

I do think that perhaps this is the most read post I have ever done. Thanks so much for reading it @oleg326756 and for the awesome suggestion.

Wow, you have a nice place of work. Nice view and the abiance is like a relaxing place. I would suggest go to gourmandie. Anyway its up to you would be better to your expercience. Upvote and follow you

Wow! These are cool photos!))) From the lift open beautiful landscapes!)))

Thanks so much @sokoloffa. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting

Beautiful shots !

Very good :))...I hope you like this work :)

Thanks @foxkoit, I appreciate it

it is ok :)

the second is a job at their adorable little soup and sandwich cafe called Gourmandie. you are leaning towards the latter for the fact that I know I've got plenty of experience in that type of thing .right?

totally, definitely not for the money

Hmm, I wonder why you would want the waitress job. The tips and all are OK, but still......most people would easily prefer the second job at Gourmandie. Just my opinion though.

I agree with you @siddartha, thanks so much

if you think about this point of view @gringalicious
in 1st option there's a lot of ching ching sound of tip... so i guess you'll get some extra amount other then your salary but you'll be more busy compare to 2nd option and also in 1st option you have to deal with more people then the 2nd option and i just hate public dealing... hate hate hate....
i hope these points will help a little O.o

Thanks for your opinion @raja, I appreciate it

Beautiful place with wonderful nature, great place for relaxing! :))

So glad you liked it @pepe.maya. I will definitely be sharing more pics in the future

Do what you love, go for the cafe spot, making those custom soups and sandwiches will have those ski resort guests coming back year after year looking for the @gringalicious and the awesome meals they don't even know that they are about to experience this summer. Keep it fresh and do what works best!

Oh, I like that, "keep it fresh." Thanks so much @sandstorm

Your welcome, good luck in this new endeavor @gringalicious :)

That's great!! You can make your decision based on salary and on what kind of experience/ learning you can get. All the best!

Thanks so much @liliana.duarte

I'd go with the Cafe! It sounds so cute! Also, love the pictures 😍

Well @kaylee.nicole, you seem to agree with the majority. I think you're right

I'd go with the latter, sounds more intimate and I'm sure you'll get to meet and get to know some interesting people along the way ✨ good luck, I'm sure you'll make the right decision either way!

Thanks for the well wishes @daisyd, I really appreciate it

Gourmandie! Good luck

Thanks @foxxycat. That does seem to be the overwhelming favorite

Hey gringa - if you are going to be serving at either, then Chimney rock will probably earn you more $ based on your descriptions. However, Gourmandie sounds like it may be your speed (total assumption though)....so I guess the question is which more important your time or your money? ;-)

It's not about the money, it is about the experience. So, I am leaning heavily to Gourmandie. If it were about money, I'd do more steemit posts instead.

Well, seems you have you answer then young grasshopper :-)

I would say go to the one that helps you financially but also the one that puts you outside your comfort zone. All in all just go with your gut instinct as it will always be the correct decision.

Great advice, thanks so much @mithrilweed

Regardless of your decision, I wish you much success and I am sure that wherever you are, you will do a great work.

Do they pay better than Steemit @gringalicious? Can't believe…

Not doing it for the pay, of course you are correct, steemit is way better. I really want the experience and, as one of the perks, I get a season lift pass this winter plus skiing lessons. Plus, this will make for some great steemit posts

Both sound great! But what always helped me to decide is to make a pros and cons list about each one. That way, you can really visually see what you think you will like and dislike about each option :) Good luck in your decision!

That is fantastic advice @sarahjanele. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment
