Toy Review: Hasbro Titanium Series Pt. II - Super Star Destroyer

To continue with the Star Wars Hasbro Titanium Series, I present to you the Super Star Destroyer! First seen in The Empire Strikes Back, this became Darth Vader's new flagship. Its canon specifications put it at a whopping 19 kilometers in length, making it a city-ship and undeniably the largest vessel in Star Wars canon (the new canon no longer includes the Expanded Universe). It is named the Executor and classified as an Executor-class Super Star Destroyer. The Executor was destroyed at the Battle of Endor (Return of the Jedi) when a damaged Rebel A-wing fighter collided with its bridge, causing the Star Destroyer to lose control and crash into the second Death Star.

It is produced with its standard clamshell packaging (although in my case, I purchased this as a loose piece at a local hobby shop) along with the standard series display stand. The Super Star Destroyer is all made of die-cast metal. An Imperial-class Star Destroyer is attached at its starboard side via a bar attached to the Super Star Destroyer itself. Both the Star Destroyer and the bar are made of soft plastic and are movable back and forth, simulating the scenes where the faster Star Destroyer passes by its larger sister ship.

Produced at only three inches in length, this is the best detail Hasbro can provide for this ship which is a downer. Ribbed panel line patterns simulate the hull paneling. Because of the attached Star Destroyer, the Super Star Destroyer's rims are too thick if you care about the ship's accuracy to the source material.

While there is some detailing on the ventral section, the engine exhausts are carelessly painted on. No molds are evident, but the exhausts are apparently misaligned. Overall, it falls to a 4.5 out of 10. A great ship, but it could have been greater.

Since I bought this as a loose piece, I got it for $7 to $8.

Stay tuned for Part III, which is obviously Jabba's Desert Skiff!
