During one of my safari photography tours to Africa, we were in Kenya on the Masai Mara plains near to the Serengeti plains of Tanzania. We were there to photograph the Wildebeest crossings which happen every year.
One of the activities on offer was a Hot Air Balloon ride over the Masai Mara, and then land for a buffet breakfast seated right there in the open of the plains, with staff on hand with rifles just in case any wildlife came along (unlikely as they select a spot that is safe).
When we arrived early morning they were blowing up the hot air balloon.
When they finally got the massive balloon inflated i was able to get into the basket and take some shots of the engines that power this hot air balloon. The heat was extreme to say the least.
Once we were up in the air the view were of course spectacular to say the least.
As the sun came up we started to see some of the wildlife on the Masai Mara plains.
If you look carefully in this picture you can see that the Wildebeest continue in a line for many miles, there are thousands of them on the move towards the river, to brave the crocodile infested crossing.
On the way back i captured this looking up into the balloon, i really love the pattern.
and the Buffet Breakfast in the middle of the Mara? It was delicious and one of the most memorable mornings of this trip. Actually one of the best memories of my life.
So what does a Hot Air Balloon ride with Buffet breakfast cost in Kenya?
$450 per person. For me, worth every penny.

Great colours in the balloon

I am so enjoying your post on your safari - the photo's are outstanding.
I would do the breakfast bit, but couldn't do the balloon - vertigo!!!
I get a little vertigo standing on a balcony and looking down, but the hot air balloon was really pleasant. The breakfast was so good, the food in Africa is outstanding.
