Hi Steemians,
We have all been blessed living on this gorgeous planet. Some of us get to #travel and share their adventures therefore for the first time I thought why not share the fun also! In short blogs/vlogs I will post items to give you an impression of my travels.
Next week I will travel to a relatively tiny country in south america called Surinam. My heritage lies in this tropical haven for wildlife since it is only inhabited for about 5% of the land mass. For more (exciting) statistics I invite you to check the info on Wikipedia_Surinam about the land of my ancestors.
To give you guys an idea here are some snapshots i borrowed randomly to give you an idea of the beauty of this country. As it is part of the Amazone #rainforest the species of animals are diverse. I hope to capture a few jungle dwellers and post them here.
The people of Surinam are a hospitable mixture of natives, africans, chinese, indian and indonesian asians, dutch, germans, lebanese, jewish and turks. And those are just the ones I know of so probably even more! The country has been responsible for providing most of the wealth from sugar and coffee plantations in the golden age of Amsterdam. You know that tiny spec in Europe famous for Rembrandts, hookers and weed. A lot of the stunning buildings in the inner city along the lovely canals were build with the provisions that Surinamese slaves produced. Yes it wasn't all glamour and fame in those golden ages... But let's not dwell on the past too much. Today Surinam is an independent republic coping with a ever changing global economy just like any other south american country. With it's own hardships dealing with financial crises, poverty, crime and corruption. However people are always smiling and nobody is struck by famine or any grave disasters similar. There are hardly ever any huricanes nor earthquakes and what is also interesting is the fact the almost everyone speaks English as a second language. Dutch being the first due to it's obvious relations with the Netherlands.
So in recent years this friendly hospitable country is welcoming more and more tourists. And I truly recommend you checking flights from your home town to this unforgettable land.
Surinam is rich in natural resources and contains wood, gold, oil and bauxite.
Some of the most important agricultural products that are exported all over the world are: rice, bananas and shrimp. Surinamese rice is the only one that has a really long grain holding lots of flavour. The #food culture in Surinam has evolved from the wide variety of cultures it's heritage inevitably holds into a modern multicultural rich pallet. From street food to cuisine all cultures have contributed to a colourful menu that once you have tried you will never forget! Of course I will share some of these exotic spicy dishes with you guys also!
Until next time when I will try to upload some pictures and vids. Hopefully the internet speed is reasonably enough to get things online. Thank you for reading all the way down here.
