Klestov are called nomads because of their lifestyle and love of flights. They do not like to be on earth. These birds feel comfortable sitting in the trees. It is interesting that crossbills are owners of strong paws, thanks to which they can hang upside down without losing balance, without signs of discomfort or fatigue

Birds give preference to pine forests, having chosen the highest points of the tree, where a predatory beast or a human eye seldom looks. A shelter for them is the density of pine or spruce branches, which protects them from wind and snow.

Favorite delicacy of a crossbill is a cone filled with seeds, but not every year it is harvested, there were cases when the intervals from harvest to harvest were 3-4 years. And this year, not all cones were born on all the trees. Yes, and getting it where it was problematic was too high. However, the experience of old poultry farmers and foresters teaches worldly wisdom. Here today, walking under the trees, I was looking for fresh cones thrown by birds to the ground and found, scored a whole bag and came home to treat my bird.

Interesting Facts:

1. Crossbills are commonly called the bird of Christ. There is a legend that during the crucifixion of Jesus this bird wanted to remove nails from the body.

2. Throughout life, crossbills mummify themselves. The fact is that they consume large amounts of tar, which will not allow their bodies to decompose.

3. Crossbills are ways to fly long distances in search of cones, up to 3,500 km from the nest.

4. The ancestors of modern crossbills appeared on the planet more than 10 thousand years ago.

5. Klestam is not afraid of frost - minus 50 they perceive as normal temperature.
