Nakhas is a very old area in Lucknow (UP, India) famous for its inexpensive but durable stuff, mostly garments, footwear and women's accessories. But there is something unique about Sundays here. Streets get flocked by vendors who jostle for every inch of space from Saturday evening in preparation for the Sunday market aka Nakhas Market. Since this is a walking distance from my home, we usually take a detour on a Sunday because a 5 minute ride takes 45 minutes (if you're fortunate). People visit in multitude, all social classes. In a nutshell, there's something for everyone. Its history dates back to early 1800s. From scrap/junk/stolen/preowned/unique/antique/new and what not. I have grown hearing stories about this place and paying a visit here never ceases to amaze me. A jeweller once visited and found a brass peacock statue. The vendor asked for INR500 (around 9USD). He took a close look at it and negotiated it for INR250. What the vendor could not see the jeweller did. Peacocks eyes were made of real and pure emerald. Well, that's one of the several I have heard. Prices depend on your appearance and language. I have picked up lots of expensive books, bike parts etc. at a throwaway price. Its not possible to take a tour of Nakhas Market in a day. So here are some photos I have taken from my Honor9i.
Dancing dolls (INR20 negotiable) as per the vendor there is a wax thing at the back of these dolls that make them dance like crazy.
Botanical space my mother loves to visit.
A young boy selling bags. (Price range- INR 25-50). Any words?
Gems, beads and Coins, some are very antique and precious. Need to have a discerning eye
Sewing machines and Electrical items at a cheap price.
Amaan and Rehaan (vendors) selling aquariums
Just a glimpse of electronics. There is a lott to buy.
Blankets
Bags
Waves of crowd just getting bigger
Someone's yet to make a sale
Useful scrap (paradox)
Colourful wheels
Some more blankets and garments (under INR 250 negotiable)
Walnuts, Raisins and Dates
Homemade cookies/biscuits (INR 10 negotiable hehe..)
These are just a few random images I could take. Probably 30% of the market. You can sit at one place and spend the entire day. That's all in the post. Hope you liked it. Please upvote, resteem and follow.
Fantastic pictures! A bargainer's paradise I suppose! I am not great at haggling, but I'd love to visit. Keep up the great work!
