When it comes to traveling, one of the most important questions to discuss is who you are traveling with.
Because of the lack of experience people think that traveling with their friends is so much better. In reality, there are certain pros and cons to both of scenarios.
This is a long article so I decided to split it into 2 parts. In this part I'm going to tell all about traveling with a company.
Benefits
It’s not that scary
Traveling is often associated with stress, doubt and fear, especially if you haven’t done this before. I guess a fear component is available because we watch TV and hear all of that crazy horror stories of particular place.
In the real world, people are not that angry, and they don’t want to kill you. On the contrary, they want to know more about your life, about your wins and losses, they want to be closer. You have no idea how many people are feeling alone. By providing them with your openness, you can find new friends in every location possible.
In this way, when you’re traveling with your friends, your worry and fear vanishes or at least decreases to a bare minimum, and you can focus on positive side of your journey.
It’s so much more fun
This is the most obvious one. Traveling with somebody who you already know is awesome. If you have similar values, you can rock the world and amplify your emotional state 10 times.
I don’t even have to stop here, you know for sure, it is fun. Just make sure you pick the right friend/friends to hang out with.
It’s cheaper
Money is a significant topic to discuss because most of the time people believe traveling is expensive, and it can be.
However, when you’re traveling with a company, you save lots of money by splitting your lunch/dinner by the number of people that are present there. It really works. Even in your hometown you can benefit knowing this trick :)
By the way, if you are really concerned about money, you can check out Nomaddic Matt’s book “How to travel the world on $50 a day” or any other resource that shows how to travel on a budget. Hopefully, we have Internet where people are sharing their tips.
It’s helpful
Your friend can help you to carry your stuff or vice versa. He/she can also help you in case you have an emergency. If you are all by yourself, it can be more difficult. So having a supportive shoulder is a plus apparently.
You can learn what was hidden
When you are on the road, you and your friends become accustomed to the natural side of things. Because of that you will start to notice a lot of new habits, and listen to new stories and find out new things that you may not be aware of before.
No matter what stuff what concealed from you, believe me, it is going to reveal itself.
Drawbacks
The main problem of traveling with somebody else is contradict interests. We are all different and love different things. That can cause a whole stack of issues.
Conflicts in food
Food is the main one I suppose. We all have distinct habits on what to eat and where. One person may love cooking, another may not. One person is a vegetarian, another is not. One person loves expensive and unusual dishes, another prefers ordinary food. One person eats a lot and needs consistent replenishment of some calories, another is happy with a small plate of rice and fish.
I hope you got me, it is infinite battle. There are only 2 ways of how it can work: either you pick a friend who have similar habits to yours, or you need make a deal with your friends to take into consideration all of the proposals and come up with something that will suit everybody. Otherwise, you’ll have lots of headaches.
Conflicts in entertainment (how to spend your time)
This one is even more important.
Personally, I don’t like museums but who knows maybe your friend adores them. Or maybe your friend prefers to get a bottle of beer instead of going to the festival. You never know what is going to happen.
That’s what I don’t like the most, it’s like you have certain constraints on what you can or cannot do. It irritates me.
Because of that again choose you travel buddy carefully.
Conflicts in transportation
I loooove hiking, and there are thousands of people who do not. I got it. So what do we have to do in case when I want to walk throughout the city absorbing colors, sounds and architecture, and my friend just want to sit down and relax?
I don’t know. It stops me from discovering more.
The other example can be when a person got used to taxi and you don’t for whatever reason you have. What happens then? I don’t know.
My solution is kind of universal I suppose, make sure you know as much as possible about who you are traveling with. And if some disagreements happen, be okay with it and handle them as an adult.
Conflicts in accommodation
Accomodation is also pain in the ass, you probably know why – the money. Some people are okay with sleeping in hostels, couchserfing, airbnb, and other need only fancy hotels.
I suppose comfort for lots of people is far more required than experience.
