Vintage Photos - Lot 3 (193-196)

in #photography14 days ago (edited)

After getting a new scanner several years ago to scan some old slides my grandparents had, I picked up several batches of slides from Goodwill and eBay to give my scanner some more work to do. I'm not sure why these commonly wind up at places like eBay but many seem to ultimately have come from estate sales. Maybe family members just don't know what to do with them or don't care. I've seen them advertised as being for crafts and such so maybe they are commonly used for that purpose. I was more interested in the actual contents. Each slide is a little slice of history from a particular time and place. These pictures span from as early as the late 1940s to as late as the early 1990s. There are thousands of these slides. I will be scanning some from time to time and posting them here mainly because I find them an interesting way to look back at the past.

Unfortunately, the photos from this batch don't seem to generally have dates stamped on them like most of the previous batches I've gone through. However, they generally seem to be from the 1950s and 1960s. Like some of the previous batches, this one came from eBay and I don't know much about the origins of these photos other than that.

Generally, I'll refer to a lot of slides I purchased together as a batch and whatever groups of slides I am scanning at the time (usually four at a time as that is what my scanner supports) as a set.

These photos were all likely taken in Mexico circa 1959.

I'm not exactly sure where the first two were taken but the second two photos feature the Church of Santa Prisca in Taxaco de Alarcon, Guerrero, Mexico. You can only glimpse one of the towers down the street in the third photo but the last photo is a close-up of this church which was built between 1751 and 1759. The first two photos were probably taken somewhere not too far away.

See the previous post in this series here.

The entire batch that has been scanned and uploaded so far can also be found here. This also includes higher resolution versions and versions with post processing.
