Part 12 in my Journey to Antarctica. If you enjoy the stories and photos, please comment and let me know!
Elephant Seals fight for dominance.
Coming ashore for those short summer months is not just rest and relaxation. The shore is full of life and full of activity as the struggle to pass on genes begins.
I saw penguins with their partners waddling down the beaches, essentially holding hands, while right besides them, two massive elephant seals fought for dominance, hoping to be the one to pass on its genetic code.
Male and female fur seals fighting.
Gentoos nurture their young, while the curious king chics wander over to my tripod and investigate this strange device. Baby fur seals lie not far from their mother (never get between) and baby elephant seals lie on the beaches begging for food after having been abandoned by their mothers.
Gentoo Penguins and their chicks.
This is the game of life. Many will enter. Few will win.
