Enjoying Newport Coast California

in #photography4 years ago (edited)

On a trip earlier this year to Newport Coast, California, my wife and our friends went and wandered the beaches during the day and went out again each evening to catch the spectacular evening light and sunsets over Catalina Island and the Pacific Ocean. We were a short walk from Crystal Cove State Park and spent one day down on the beach where the surf has cut caves into the coastal cliffs.

The beach was a short hike down some steep but well maintained trails that took you from the rocky cliffs down to the water. You can't see the trail from the shot below, but a lot of the trails were paved, making access for strollers and wagons full of beach gear possible.

Here's a shot from the beach. You can see how far you have to come down to get to the beach.

The evening walks were my favorite. There was still a haze over Catalina Island and the Pacific from the California wild fires, which looked pretty smoggy during the day. But in early evening, the clouds and the haze really provided a spectacularly colorful sunsets.

Here's one of my favorite shots with the spray from the crashing waves lit up by the setting sun.

The last night we were there, we decided to go up to Corona Del Mar's Inspiration Point. We figured with a name like Inspiration Point, it had to be pretty good, right? It was a pretty popular spot for sunset watching so we had to park in a neighborhood several blocks back from the ocean. When we first got there we could see why it was named Inspiration Point.

This is the view looking south from Inspiration Point just before sunset.

And here is my favorite shot from Inspiration Point, taken a few minutes after sunset when the sky turned a beautiful red and purple. Hope you enjoyed my photos. It was a great place to visit during the pandemic, because there were plenty of places to go to get away from the crowds and enjoy beautiful views.

Stunning! The ragged beach, the residential encroachment and the setting sun. You killed it!!

You killed it!!

I hope he did not. :D

Thanks Denise! Appreciate the reblog!

I came to make sure you took advantage of being part of #haveyourbeenhere as you travel and you take awesome pictures@ They are kind and easy to work with.

Good luck@

Thanks. I was wondering what the benefits were of posting in curated versus the general blog. Their comment on my post cleared some of that up.

The pick a daily winner. The upvote is nice and they publish you in their winner post. They also pick runners up. You posts are always stellar. I think you should post in #haveyoubeenthere or post in theirs unless you have a special tag, as I do for #marketfriday and need to use it. They are very kind and understand those things.

I didn't see where you posted the Pinmapple Code. You can use both

Thanks! I edited my Newport Coast post to add the pinmapple code. I’ll give Haveyoubeenthere a try with my next post.

I think you will be really happy with both of them. You can use both on the same post.

I like how you casually put the "haveyoubeenthere" question in the tags. I wonder how many people will read that. The majority of the users will probably not even read the post itself.

By the way, I have not been there so far. I have not visited any part of the USA so far.

Of the 747 upvotes, it would be interesting to see how many people read it. You are probably correct. Hopefully you will get a chance to visit the US someday.

So beautiful pictures 😍🥰

Wow! Stunning shots, the beach is so beautiful. I love sunset by the beach as I live by the seaside but I'm aways too lazy to go out 😂

Hi @dabeckster,
Great to see you using the #travelfeed tag! We launched the #travelfeed curated tag more than 3 years ago and have been supporting the best travel blogs on Hive ever since. But did you know that TravelFeed has evolved? Based on the feedback of thousands of Hive travel bloggers we created TravelFeed.io.

TravelFeed.io brings together all the benefits of Hive decentralized blogging with features that you as a travel blogger will love: Photo galleries, Instagram embeds, custom maps, post scheduling and more. And if you want, you can even use our easy site builder to set up your own travel blog on your own domain which can be a great way to generate a passive income from your blog!

Unfortunately, focussing on developing the best platform for travelers means that we no longer curate the #travelfeed tag. But, you can log in with your Hive account on TravelFeed.io to publish your next travel post, and it will be posted to Hive automatically! Every day, we select the best posts and reward them with an upvote and added visibility.

We would love to see you on TravelFeed.io soon :)

Good to know. I'll check it out. Thanks!
