Poverty stricken South Africa – Making a living with Beach Art

in #photography8 years ago

Every morning early, before sunrise they start their work of art with the hope to make enough money to survive. With no to little education they use their God given talent with the cheapest tools and nature to help them in their fight for survival.

When visiting our South African coast whether the Atlantic Ocean or Indian ocean side, you can expect to come across our humble, poor sand artists on most of our main beaches.

These photographs were taken at Uvango, South Coast, Kwazulu Natal. You can see the humble artist keeping his work wet so that it doesn’t crumble to smithereens under the excruciating summer sun.

This one was taken on Durban’s main beach – Kwazulu Natal.

Please when visiting our warm, beautiful, friendly, sunshine beaches consider giving these artists a generous donation for their dedication and hard work to help them make a living.

Keep smiling, reading, writing and voting.

shame i love these sculptures the guys do, always very impressive stuff. Missing Durbs :(

Thanks warreensteem. Yes Natal is my favorite province in South Africa but you also find these artists in Port Elizabeth and Cape Town - Milnerton Beachl

Cape Town, my spirit home. I'm there twice a year no excuses. Did spend some of my formative years skateboarding north beach in Durban though, I miss the food in Durbs as well!

I guess South Africa becomes part of you forever. We have a fantastic skateboarding track at our shopping center, great to watch the kids skillfully manipulate their boards and bikes but too old to join in the fun though.

Amazing pictures. the person is putting in effort not just begin for money

Thanks dragonslayer109 exactly and it is sad to see how few people give a donation but stand and admire his work of art for quite some time.

They're really talented artists and should be supported with donations - nice post.
