Tioga Falls Adventure

in #photography4 years ago

A few months back a friend suggested we hike out and take photos of a waterfall located just a bit south of Louisville. As soon as we got a good enough break in the weather (this was back in February) we grabbed our stuff and headed to Tioga Falls.

This sign was the first one to greet us after we parked and started towards the trailhead. I hadn't done much research prior to heading out other than to confirm that there was indeed a waterfall there (It doesn't take much to get me to agree to an adventure). Turns out Tioga Falls is on the Fort Knox army base (yeah, the place with the gold) and there were plenty of slightly ominous, vaguely threatening signs along the way to inform us of where we could and couldn't go.

Got this sign with my phone's camera, at one point the trail crosses a railroad track and there were even more signs to discourage curiosity. Eventually we reached the falls got to explore and shoot for a bit before we had to retrace our steps.

We were the only ones at the falls so we were able to take our time and enjoy the scenery as we took our photos. The trail ends at the falls and I wasn't too keen on testing Fort Knox's security so we headed back to the car.

Black and white version of a slightly different shot to give @monochromes something else to look at. While the signs we kept encountering were slightly ominous, this tree that I spotted on the hike back out was disconcerting on a deeper level...

Is it just me or is this the stuff of nightmares? (phone photo)
