| Still had to wait for documents to go to Hong Kong to apply for a work visa. | Today's pictures are from my first trip (still 2007) to the Carrefour supermarket in Ningbo proper. The picture below is from Beilun, though. As I mentioned before, the area around the polytechnic was a ghost town. Here you can see it nicely: virtually no traffic on large roads beside fairly new apartment blocks. | Die heutigen Bilder sind von meinem ersten Einkaufstrip zum Carrefour-Supermarkt im eigentlichen Ningbo. Das Bild unten stammt jedoch aus Beilun. Wie schon erwähnt, war die Gegend um das Polytechnikum eine regelrechte Geisterstadt. Unten sieht man das recht gut: so gut wie kein Verkehr auf breiten Straßen durch relativ neue Wohngebiete. |

| A few people were actually living there. They probably were former farmers in the area who had been given apartments in the new buildings put on their old farmland. True to their old habits, they were washing their clothes in the 'river' (more a canal, but well). Just a few meters away, 2 guys were fishing. | Ein paar Menschen lebten tatsächlich dort. Sie waren vermutlich frühere Bauern in der Gegend, die Wohnungen in den neuen Wohnblöcken bekommen hatten, die man auf ihren früheren Feldern errichtete. Wie gewohnt, wuschen sie ihre Klamotten immer noch im 'Fluß' (eher ein Kanal, aber naja). Ein kleines Stück weiter sieht man 2 Angler. |

| The cathedral was originally built in 1713, rebuilt into its 2007 form in 1872. In 2014 it burnt out & was fully 'restored' in 2018. Seems like it looks the same, they just changed the colours of the lights. | Die Kathedrale wurde ursprünglich 1713 erbaut, & erhielt ihre Aussehen von 2007 im Jahr 1872. 2014 brannte sie aus & wurde bis zum Jahr 2018 komplett restauriert. Scheint wieder so auszusehen wie 2007, man hat nur die Beleuchtung geändert. |

| For a while it was the seat of the Catholic diocese of Ningbo. It's also called Cathedral of the Seven Sorrows of Mary or simply Catholic Church. So much about this church for now. Will come back to it in the future, since I made some more pictures on a later date. & that was my first trip downtown. More to come. | Sie war eine zeitlang der Sitz der katholischen Diözese von Ningbo. Man nennt sie auch einfach nur Katholische Kirche. Für jetzt soll das alles zu dieser Kirche gewesen sein. Werde aber in Zukunft nochmal darauf zurückkommen, da ich an anderen Tagen noch mehr Bilder gemacht habe. & das war's auch von meinem ersten Besuch im eigentlichen Ningbo. Mehr zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt. |
