@fotosdenada ... my favorite was the snowy chin. I am surprised they let you get so close. I have never had the opportunity to see bison up close, thank you, that had to be a phenomenal experience for you as a photographer. Thank you for sharing (^_^)

It's a little easier to get close to them with the road going through. Catching them in the right spot is a matter of chance, though! If they're by the road, you just watch the herd for awhile and see which direction they're moving. Then you can position yourself sort of in front of them and turn off the engine. They'll eventually pass you up without paying much attention. I wouldn't make any suddon moves or noises, though!
