I was trying to take a short five second exposure and capture what was in front of me without having the moon blow out the photo. I decided to try and take the photo with as much of the moon behind the cactus I could get. This is not the ideal situation for capturing the Milky way and the night sky but it will work in a pinch. I edited the photo to bring out the details and make the photo pop a little more.
Here is the original photo in need of some major editing.
Canon EOS 6D
17 mm
5 second exposure
ISO 5000
EF17-35MM F/2.8L
Here is a little animation from combining the original and edit

Awesome picture. I love the milky way behind the cactus!
Thank you, its not as clear as it would have been if it was a new moon out but I was happy that it was still visible.
