The Old Mes Bridge in Shkoder, Albania
The Mes Bridge is a bridge in the village of Mes which lies about 5 kilometers north-east of Shkodër, in northwestern Albania. It is a monument of Postribs culture which is now a tourist attraction site with a lot of visitors from all around the world. I got here via a rental bike in Shkoder and took the easy route straight to the bridge.
For visitors the structure of the bridge is intriguing with round slick stones and stone plates. The surrounding panorama provides the bridge a picturesque view. The Albanian Development Fund spent 13 million lekë to develop it so the tourists could step on the bridge.
It was built in the 18th century, around 1770, by Kara Mahmud Bushati, the local Ottoman pasha, and crosses the Kir River. During its development, it was divided into two phases where the first phase was only the middle arc and the arc near it and the next phase included another 11 arches.
The purpose was to join the city of Shkodër with the town of Drisht and other cities of the northern side. It had been constructed as part of the street which goes up the Kir Valley, eventually to Pristina.
Now the bridge is in danger of destruction, having been damaged over time by catastrophic floods, which have led to floodwaters cutting off at the arches on the right side which caused cracking. It is being also overrun with trash clutter and the local mayor's office is not doing anything to repair or even stop the litter drop in the area. Urgent repair work is necessary to preserve this historic monument.

Oo so awesome photo ;) Good job :)
positioning of camera is awesome....
@adonisabril I have been to Albania.
There are so many historical sites in Albania, the country has its history written in stone.
I am from Tirana, Albania. However moved to US almost 2 decades ago. I continue to travel in the region for work and pleasure. Unfortunately the gov is so corrupt to care. Btw, for those reading my post, Albania didn't have basics running 24/7 not even a decade ago. By basics I mean water and electricity.
@adonisabril did you visit the lake and the Castle of Rozafa? Albania geographically is an amazing country, a gem in the Adriatic and Ion sea.
Well said @world-traveler!
@adonisabril hope you enjoyed the beauty of North of Albania.
I've been to Rozafa :) and I heard about the corruption..
Dang you're all over the place! I've never been to Albania but I know a good Albanian song lol yeah I know that doesn't count
Good enough :) but still have to visit!

Awesome!!!
Beautiful bridge wonderfully captured.
I rode from Montenegro, through Albanian and into Kosovo back in 2008.
After an accidental meeting with Jack, a former builder who’d worked briefly in London, I stayed with his family just outside of Shkoder for one night. The Albanian hospitality was amazing. The next morning, I rode into the ‘mountains’ to find a ferry that would take me along Lake Koman towards Kosovo.
At the time, Albania had its fair share of infrastructure challenges, but away from the debris left in the wake of humans, it was stunningly beautiful.
Thanks for the memory @adonisabril .... Geoff
Awesome! I had a great time in Albania, definitely needs more attention!
