Off to the nursery, we go...

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

Every off and on, I love browsing around the nursery section of the local hypermarket... This time around, they are bringing in the Chinese New Year flowers and plants, while giving discounts for last season's pots!

Have a look at these plants & flowers - as usual, I'm no expert at identifying them, even though some are recognisable... I just enjoy them as part of nature and the beauty they add to our world!

Heyyy, the Chinese New Year lime plants are in... These are a must in many Chinese homes, symbolising prosperity and abundance! See how many fruits there are? The fruits turn orange later, symbolic of 'gold' ("prosperity", get it?) Some of these sold are huge, measuring 5 ft height or more! The ones I found were only about 3 ft high. The plants/trees are purposely 'made' to fruit over abundantly so as to look as auspicious as possible! And no, I wouldn't advise eating these as they are also over-laden with fertilisers and pesticides... 😨

Look! A leftover poinsettia... looking a little sad and brown at the edges... This was the last pot leftover from Christmas. This was the prettiest angle I could take of it, to make it look radiant & red!

Yellow flowers are always good for the Chinese as yellow is an auspicious colour! Here, I often see these decorating sidewalks, around the base of trees or riverbanks. I guess pots of these lining your driveway might invite prosperity to your home??
"Prosperity... This way in, please...!"

A few more pots of cactus and succulents left... I thought this was cute, the way the small succulents surrounded the mama cactus!

Zinnia? Is that you?
Darn air-cond duct kept blowing the flowers about...
😠

I love these but the harsh overhead lighting was terrible to snap light coloured flowers... Made them all kinda blank-out! I only had my handphone with me; most times it serves me well, but handphones being handphones, one can't really adjust settings much! Or maybe it's just me!

Finally, my favourite for the day ~ these were delicate, kinda lacey and pretty! The 'serrated' edges made them look very sweet!

A whole selection was being brought in for the coming festivities... lots and lots of auspicious plants which were being arranged and already grabbed by some customers... I'll see if I can go back when it is quieter to get more shots. It certainly wasn't conducive when I was there.
Wish me luck!
