New ideas as an artist

in #photofeed7 years ago (edited)

Today we will take a look at this 4 year old photos.

One thing you probably don't know about me is that I am a big fan of steampunk and cyberpunk imagery. So around 4 years ago, following some online tutorial I made a pair of steampunk goggles for a Halloween party but after investing several hours working on them I thought it would be cool to use them in a photoshoot.

As an artist, my superpower is creating. To create stuff you need ideas. You need to create concepts, explore them and decide what stays and what goes. And this is what I wanted to illustrate in this image.

Later on, after my first image got published on 1x.com, I did a follow-up on it trying to show, in the same manner, another situation in an artists mind. Sometimes you just have a good day and everything is pure inspiration for you so when you start to create you have a jar full of ideas waiting for you to pick one.

If any of you is intrested to read a step by step on how I shot one of this images, a tutorial i wrote 4 years ago is up here : https://steemit.com/photofeed/@positivexposure/in-the-spotlight-this-week-vmoldo-day-3

Also while searching for this images I took a moment to look back on my editing and photography from 4 years ago and realized how much progress happened in those years.

You have skills! Great work!

I think I should start compositing again, it oppens up a lot of oportunies

I would love to see a "How I did it" break down on that first image. You really got the lighting of that floating lightbulb on the subject dead on, so it would be entertaining and educational to see if you did it the way I think you did it.

Cheers,
@kellyjanderson

a full tutorial, step by step will be posted in a few hours on @positivexposure.

Oh, the @positivexposure blog looks like it is going to be a really great blog! I am glad I heard about it from this exchange. 🎉

i think the idea is to feature one photographer and i was luck enought to be the first one

Love the photos, and I'm interested in your creative process. Do you have an organized method of coming up with ideas for how you photograph difference concepts?

Not really, but I can suggest a few things that help.

  • whenever you see a photo you like pin it down on a board on pintrest
  • doodle for a few minutes every day
  • if you see something that inspires you in a movie pause it and take a screenshot
  • chat with other creatives, not necessarily photographers you will trigger ideas in their mind and they will in yours
but in the end just go with the flow a lot of my images are pure randomness. after a while i just started to shoot and trust my instincts to create images

Great tips! I keep a lot of images in an inspiration folder but my go-to technique for working out the details was always a simple notepad document where I'd write down everything that came to mind for a concept - all the words and ideas that could possibly relate, and then distill them into a single idea.

@vmoldo! Another rad pic! I showed your "Madness" post to a friend of mine to inspire to get the hell on with his photography career, love your work dude! I too am a fan of the steampunk realm!

I'm so happy if my madness can inspire others to create.

Dude those goggles are killer! You should check out my band if you're into the steampunk vibe too!

We are called the "Dukes Of Note", carnival, gypsy, theatric, rock! \m/

I'm sure you know Gogol Bordello right?
