I asked at the hostel reception which way it was to the lighthouse. The look I received was a mix of shock and confusion.
"aren’t you on a bike?"
Yeah
"Do you know how far it is?"
It's about 25 miles... I think
"Okay. Just checking. You know, I don't think people cycle out there, it's very hilly. I'm sure you can find a ride with someone from the hostel.”
Don't worry I’ll be fine on the bike
😱😱
If you've done any amount of cycling 25miles isn't really that far. Knowing you have to go back the same way making it 50+ miles with 5000 ft elevation gain while carrying all your gear, perhaps makes it worth a second thought. Still, it's worth it.
I probably could have got a ride, but I didn’t want to. Getting somewhere on your own steam primes you to be appreciative when you get there. I’m claiming there is no way you can get the same level of admiration, awe and sense of freedom that making a journey by human power gives you. Hike, bike, run, swim, climb, paddle you name it, I just think it’s worth more if you worked for it.
Hahaha, backwards selfies are the best selfies!
Where I've had to work in the city, I always cycle... I had being dependent on other people, whether it's the people in the cars of the traffic around me or the people running the public transport. Not relying on anyone else gives you that freedom to control exactly where you are and where you want to be... which also helps your mood. There's nothing worse than feeling trapped or out of control.
I bet you are very strong and energetic! But you are right! I have never been so dissapointed in a mountain as when we drove up by car. And it was the highest mountain of Thailand!
Your photography is beautiful! It is maybe heavy to take all of your gears with you, but if I see the results I am sure it is worth all thr effort, and you have a good memory left!
Love,
Sha
really cool picture and indeed, hiking up the mountain is a bitch sometimes but making it to the top is then worth it after all
Hey @sambillingham, is this the view from the lighthouse? It looks epic from up there. Another great shot using the DJI Mavic Pro. Maybe I should get one. You have my upvote today. Have a great day. Cheers😀👍💯 P.S. - I reckon this is you in the photo, is it you? 😀
This is close to the lighthouse but not quite, that's got an amazing view too. Yes, that's me, I'm flying the drone, it's quicker and easier than carrying a tripod around :)
Cool stuff @sambillingham. Looking forward to more of your adventures 😀. Hope you are having an amazing day. Bless you 😀
LOVE this pic...
thanks
