So glad David Slater won that. PETA should be focused on real animal issues and not ruining that guys career. Thanks for the round up!
Great write-up.
What are your thoughts on photographs winning these prizes when it's someone who's mainly just in the right place at the right time? Like with the Charlottesville photo?
If you're not in the right place at the right time you wouldn't get the shot! Even if it were someone that has never picked up a camera, literally lifted the camera up and said "what does this button do?" as they pressed the shutter and got a shot like any of the above images has as much right to win the award as someone that sleeps with a camera in their hand and actively seeks out human tragedies.
In case you're not in the perfect place at the correct time you wouldn't get the shot! Regardless of whether it were somebody that has never grabbed a camera, truly lifted the camera up and said "what does this catch do?" as they squeezed the shade and got a shot like any of the above pictures has as much ideal to win the honor as somebody that lays down with a camera in their grasp and effectively searches out human tragedies.
Wow this is an awesome write up @skiesandsports!!
So the 5DII came 8th, but the D700 came 7th!!??!! That camera is 10 years old!!! I have one back in Vancouver that's barely working anymore, but it's still an amazing camera.
Nice to see Ronald Schemidt's photo here. His works is really amazing
