Today I stopped for a moment to ponder about the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Easily one of the most iconic and recognizable buildings in the world. Created in 1173 this structure is a Campanile, or simply a freestanding Bell Tower, as an amenity to The Cathedral of Italy's City of Pisa.
As for the tower itself the primary reason for the lean due to its lack of sound foundation. Despite this the tower was upgraded with a stronger foundation in the 20th Century. The result it doesn't just fall over is because of the tower's center of gravity being just outside of the tower itself, which is highly unusual in both old and new designs. Accidents this iconic rarely survive this long, but the Leaning Tower of Pisa continues to amaze it's visitors and the world alike.
