In the underground of the city... Exploring the sewers... :-)

in #photofeed7 years ago (edited)

A few days ago, some friends and I decided a spontaneous action...
What to do on Sunday afternoon if the weather sucks and no sun is shining?

Yeah right, let's get into the sewers and look for Pennywise...
Ummm... after a Geocache... :-)

So we packed our things, flashlight, helmet, waterproof footwear and made our way.

According to the description, the geocache should be 6 meters below the city center.
However, the entry is further away from the actual location.
The description was a small encrypted rustling, which we had to decrypt first.

The decoded rustling was:

"If the monks want to bake bread, they must first go near the entry!
In the Underground, sometimes another path must be taken to get there."

So this rustling should bring us near the entrance to the sewer.
Monks, baking bread... Hmmm... maybe a monastery bakery? An old mill?

We briefly considered what historical buildings are in the city and what stories were behind them. It could only be the old mill above the town, so we headed there. We were right, in the vicinity was already the entry...

So down to the sewers. :-)
The height of the sewage system was different, sometimes we had to squat for long stretches or crawl on our knees. Partly we were able to stand upright.

Here are some snapshots with my Sony A6300 of our little adventure tour.

All in all, we walked around 3 hours in the underground and explored all possible paths and pipes.

We could find the Geocache at the end of a pipe, which we had to climb into.

It was a really exciting and a different adventure trip.
A nice Sunday trip in bad weather... :-D
Searching for Geocaches is really a lot of fun. :-)

What about you?
Did you also search for Geocaches and discovered some adventurous places?

wow, thank you so much for your support... :)

Great photos!! In this case, the original coordinates are of the entrance? Because a GPS u nderground is not easy to use... ;)

The GPS coordinates were in the middle of the city center. The description said, down here, 6 meters below is the geocache, but the entrance is far away. There was an encrypted enigma, we need to decrypt first to find the entrance. we found the entry about 1 km far away from the geocache. In the sewers there was only one way, so we didn't need GPS signal. I wrote the story above... ;-)

Wow! Well this is certainly very different :-) I don't think i've seen the inside of sewers before. Thanks for sharing something unique!

Thanks for the kind words. I'm happy, that you like it :)

Well i hope you didnt find ninja turtles or Bane in those sewers.. ;)
On a serious note, that looks awesome..

Hehehe, unfortunately, we didn't discover any turtles, probably we were too loud.
But there were signs of old pizza boxes, perhaps they were here before our visit... ;-)
Thanks for your compliment @jbn. :-)

Did you say pizza? M coming over ;)

And you're welcome -^_^

So what is in the Geocache? Is it placed somewhere that storm water won't wash it away?

In the geocache were a logbook, a testament (you never know... :D), a lighter, a toy cars and figures, matches, card set, plaster and many other trifles. If you want to take something out, you have to put something into it.
The cache is so hidden that it can not be washed away by the rainwater.
Everything was dry in the sewerage area where the cache was.

The box might be dry, but by the looks of it, your trousers and boots weren't. =)

So did you guys put anything into the box?

I used to explore the sewers with friends below the city I grew up in. Judging by the amount of graffiti that we found deep under the city, many others had similar ideas about exploring down there.

Hehehe, yes the way through the sewers were a little bit wet ...: D
We put some candies into the box.

Wow, your expedition in the underground sounds really interesting, it's always nice to get to know the city from another angle and to discover something new.
Did you make some pictures of your adventure tours through the sewers?

No photos, this was way before smart phones and digital cameras had rubbish resolution.
