Shitty location photo challenge on a snowy Saturday

A little while ago I saw some work from a photographer named Jenna Martin on Insta. She tries to find ugly locations and make them sing. Since it's miserable outside I was inspired and wanted to see if I could do something as well with the locations she chose and some others. Some of my photos turned out similar - but since I was lacking a model, and was limited to wife of limited patience for my photography (can't say I blame her), I had to make do.

I also try to do most of my editing in lightroom - and don't do much with photoshop so that limited my selections as well. I admire the work that @vmoldo and others can do with photoshop, but that's a skill I'll have to pick up some other time.

I had a perfect adventure on a snowy Saturday.

It was good practice for me to go play with my camera and shoot in some less than ideal locations. I think they turned out ok and I had fun (not sure my wife did). When it's a little warmer outside I'll have to do this more often.

What do you do when you're in less than ideal conditions?

Good post, you can reach the rank you want, I'm new in steemit, and I follow you, hope you can help improve my ranking. Thank you for your help.

Very nice! And your wife is a saint. :-D

Yup she is.

Man you need a model with you next time

I don't think I know any.

Just ask that friend who is ok with doing silly things in public. We all have a friend like that. Most of the people in my photos are not models. I for example prefer to work with random people who have interesting looks. We pick the clothes together and than just go have fun (or freez outside for a few hours - considering my last photo shot)

Not a bad idea. Save me from asking family.

I eat cookies and pout when the conditions are less than ideal and then I might take a couple of photos of my dog or cat and maybe the cookies if I haven't eaten them.

Great job with the photos at the store. I actually like how you did the clothing store photo.

Thanks! Forget the photos...eat the cookies!

Turned out pretty well imo. I like the two pictures outside especially.

Not too bad. I like the outdoor ones too...but that's easier for me.

Very nice photos of 'mundane' locations. Honestly, it has never occurred to me to take photos in the hardware or grocery store. I am essentially head down, butt up and go in those places.

Maybe the princess for a model? Kids can have fun and find fun anyplace. You could use the 'ice cream' pay model...

That's true....it's funny she's taken on my hatred for being in front of the camera.

Ha really cool project man. I always get held back when there's bad weather, sometimes it just puts you off taking pics. Since I live in the UK that's quite often haha But you have inspired me to try something similar. Cheers! :D

I used to live over there. There's so much to shoot. I'll keep an eye out for the results!

The locations don't look shitty at all! It's amazing how you've transformed them :) Reminds me of life too, can be shitty for real but we have the ability to transform it and its a matter of finding the right perspective :)

Very much so. I didn't look at it like that....but you're very right!

Awesome, dude! These types of exercises are great for your creativity muscle!
When faced with shitty or unfamiliar shooting locations I tend to 'minimize,' which I see you did a bit of as well. Try to capture minimal, yet interesting, compositions. Reduce the clutter and 'ugliness' to colour, shape, and line. Fun fun fun!

What do you do when you're in less than ideal conditions?
IMHO, you had ideal conditions! Maybe not to shot a nice sunset (however, there are trazillions of them) or other nature with nice light. But, to my opinion and taste, these are nice images. I looked at them really longer than the umpteenth mountain image. They are not self-evident: I wonder why, what do I see and feel.
So, I hope you will post more of this kind of images!!
