The Black Canyon of the Gunnison

in #photofeed7 years ago

Have you heard of this National Park? The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is in western Colorado, and it's as dramatic as the name is long. There are multiple viewpoints like this one where you can look way down into the canyon below. I knew little about this park before visiting, so I was mightily impressed. There are so many natural wonders in North America that you can't keep track of them all.

P.S. No redshirts were harmed in the making of this photo.

no place for fear of heights!

Haha, well, I don't like heights, sooo.... it probably wasn't as close to the edge as it looks (I think there was a ledge underneath).

Have been in the US for three times and visited a lot of NPs, but never heard of this one. Therefore you are upvoted!

Hehe, thank you, @roadtrips! :D

This is pretty badass well done I love the sky In this image

Hehe, thank you!

yikes, you daredevil ;)

Not really. I try not to do anything foolhardy. :)

cracking shot fella :)

Thank you sir!

Never heard of it !

That would have made two of us. ;)

a fantastic shot, I'd love to know that place, it seems magical and with a great energy.

It's well worth a visit - thank you! :)

Good job @derekkind you always take a good shot. It's fascinating to see a Black Canyon in your photo.

Thank you, @chadee! Yes, those rock walls were crazy - see the patterns on the right side?

yeah I can see it, and I can see that it's very far from ground

New to me. I need to get off my mountain and travel more... Great shot @derekkind!

I don't blame you, it's a smaller park (well, in terms of size on the map, not depth) and not well publicized. Thanks, Scott!

awesome place and photography, sounds there is a brave man in red shirt !

Not too brave. I don't like heights, but I don't think I was standing in mortal peril - I avoid standing anywhere really unsafe.

I'll have to take an away team there

Is that a Star Trek reference? Despite my use of redshirt, I'm not as familiar with Star Trek.

It's so beautiful. Nice work. If anybody's interested here's a link to the canyon website: https://www.nps.gov/blca/index.htm

Thanks for the link! Yep, it was one of the more surprising National Parks.

Stunning work mate! I've been away from the platform for a little while, so its nice to see you're still here on steemit killing it with the photography :)

Nice to see you back! How do you like the snow?? :D

This national park is one of the places I traveled to when I lived In Denver back in the 80's. Colorado is such a beautiful place. I enjoy your photography and am looking forward to exploring more of your work.

Yes, there's a lot to explore there! I don't know if it's an underrated state, but it had more than I knew about before I went there. Thank you! :)

First time I saw a picture of this place, nice view ;)

Thanks! I think it deserves to be better-known. :)

stunning image, pure inspiration.

Thank you very much! :)
