On making my way back from a short fishing trip to the estuary, I came across this gentleman who was heading back to the water to cool down.
Hippos have extremely sensitive skins, they sunburn very easily and thus spend so much time in the water. This guy had been taking advantage of the cool morning and shade grazing before the sun became too much.
This is where you backtrack slowly but surely and make sure he has a clear line to the water.
Wow this is awesome lucky you to came across this animal... Can't wait to visit SA ..
No no no. Coming across a Hippo out the water is not a lucky thing. Maybe nice to see, but these are the most dangerous mammals in Africa, kill more people than any other. They are actually quite scary, like Elephant and Rhinos, they have a way that they can move through the thickest of bush making virtually no sound. I have been in the bush and missed a herd of elephant that were all of 25-30m away from me. They just blend in and were so quiet it was not fun!
You need to be highly careful... Attack is one thing bad about those animals... What I mean Lucky you was that to have had the opportunity to see it.. I've never see any around..
