For this weeks #mypictureday; I spent a lot of time at a local spot photographing birds.
On Tuesday I stopped by the park on my way home from work. When I parked my car the wind was blowing really hard and a lot of ring billed gulls where soaring above the parking lot. It almost looked as though they were hovering in place because of the wind.
I went down to the river bank to try and get photographs of pelicans landing in the water. I wasn't down there too long before Larry showed up. Thanks to @womanchild for the name.
The great blue heron was fishing. Every time he would put his head under water I would shoot a burst of photos.
The blue heron was doing so well with the fish that some pelicans started to get closer to see what was up. I don't think Larry cared for them much.
As it was getting closer to sunset a few other photographers showed up. I enjoyed talking with them but I was a little envious of their lenses. They put my little 250mm to shame. Both had the sigma 150-600mm which is just massive lens.
I had so much fun that I went back on Wednesday after work. I was pretty much in the same spot as Tuesday and the blue heron came back. It is almost as if he likes having his portrait taken. :)

Not yet, but I'm going. :) I just have to take beautiful pictures :) and put them into a story.
Getting out and taking pictures is the fun part of the contest.
I am going to the Netherlands for the weekend. I will take a lot of photos :)

I was lucky to find an area were the herons like to fish and they are used to seeing lots of people around. Both days I was in place waiting on birds to fly close to me when the heron landed close by.
I wish I could have a 250mm lens in my Rx1r. These are awesome shots buddy!
600mm is ridiculous!!!😲
That Rx1r is so much camera in a small package. I still find it hard to believe its full frame for the size that it is.
You are right about 600mm being ridiculous. One guy had to keep it on a tripod because it was to heavy for him to hand hold for very long. I think he said the lens weighed 6lbs. Still doesn't stop my gear lust though. That is the problem with photography every thing is expensive and its never enough.

Yes that's true, again. That's why I'm trying my best not to go to photography shops, I'm worried that I will end up buying something, lol.
I really my like my rx1r, I really wish to have lens option for it, on the + side, it's a good thing that it doesn't have, because I will end up buying a bunch of lenses.
