The Spaniards began exploring the island of Cebu the moment they arrived. When they reached the island in the northern part of Cebu, they were greeted by a big storm. It was Christmas that time and instead of having festivities and merry-making, they were left doing nothing thus, the name Malapascua came out.
The name was derived from the expression "Malas sa Pasko" or "Unfortunate Christmas".
Malapascua Island takes pride of its stunning and beautiful scenery. With a population of more or less 3,000 people, the island of Malapascua takes pride to a beautiful stretch of white sand beaches and crystalline waters.
For those who love to take a walk or trek, the island can be circle in roughly 2 hours.
So, are you ready to get a glimpse of this piece of paradise island? Behold, Malapascua.
The locals coined the place as Lapus Lapus, both the island and the cliffs because you can get here coming from different directions of the island.
Being famous for its crystal clear beaches and is often dubbed as the Boracay of Cebu, the island is also among the best diving destinations in the country.
The shoals on the island are among the best areas to spot tiger sharks and other interesting marine life.
