My Musings Meander

in #philosophy4 years ago (edited)

So originally I wanted to start this blog off with a different series. I wanted to start it off with this whole thing on relativism. I wanted to interview a couple of sociologists from local universities but none of these dickwads will call me back. So that is forcing me to start off with sex and religion. I'm finalizing a couple things with that so it will have a better flow to it. After that I should have enough content to post every day for over a month. Two months if I put some spaces in my posting. I plan to keep each post to maybe a page or so each time and do it in parts.

Now my last post I talked about the reasons for posting using common every day language when possible. I think that is the right thing to do. I also want to bring up something else about writing styles that you will notice. At times they will seem to be a little all over the place but it's done on purpose. There is a method to it. You see when most people write on a subject they'll pick a topic and stick to it exclusively and never veer off in their articles and commentaries. I respect that but I do the opposite. I do the opposite because my goal is something bigger.

This is an idea that I learned as a teacher. Teacher is more of a general term what I actually do for a living is that I'm a defensive tactics trainer for law enforcement agencies. I run my own company and they hire me to come in and teach. When I started doing this I looked at what everyone else was doing and what I was doing wasn't that different. They had techniques and so did I and that wasn't going to set me apart from anyone. So I started studying because I wanted to do something more effective. Most just teach a technique. All techniques can work or fail depending on the situation. So techniques alone can't be the solution, there has to be something else. Then I thought to myself, if you learn a technique does that mean you really know it? I mean you can duplicate the movement but do you really know it? The answer is no. So I started teaching with building blocks where you would learn not only the techniques but realistic ways you could end up there. On top of that since nothing is perfect you would also need to know how that is countered and what would counter it. In my mind then and only then would you really know the technique.

Once I started doing this I realized I was onto something. Because when I taught this way it created sequences. I started to notice connecting points between the techniques to the point that it created an infinite flow. The way that I write imitates this idea. Not every single part of it all the time but it imitates it. I may start off with some historical stuff that works as a foundation then get into more of the philosophical parts. I'll seemingly veer off and talk about something that is only indirectly related but it is actually related. I've already written a ton of content I just haven't posted it yet. If you were to read it all in a day you would see that that all actually connect the each other in a greater loop.

One way you can look at it is like conceptual thinking. You look at a problem that we have socially. You think that problem is the thing but it's not. It's actually an example of something else...something deeper. Another way to think about it is like a disease. Right now in many ways we are treating the disease we are only treating the symptoms.

Let's take politics for example. I don't really care which side you are on for these purposes it doesn't matter. I don't really like talking about politics in my commentaries but unfortunately sometimes I have no choice but I keep it as minimal as possible. You see when someone makes a decision about politics there's a reason they made it. Something led to that decision. It's the same with anything else. There's reason people think the way they do. Politics isn't as relevant to my stuff because I view it as something that happens later down the line. It's a symptom. I'm much more interested in the process that led to it. Trust me when I tell you that as a human being you have much more control over these outcomes and the world in general than you think you do. The series should start up Monday with a history of religion in America. If you found this interesting don't forget to upvote it!

Interesting, If you will maintain the discipline and maybe deal with a low audience here on hive, I am curious to get to know that concept of yours. I see a pattern in my own texts and the relations between the publications. I have now more than three years material collected on this blog. It would be interesting to print it into a book or e-book.

I wanted to interview a couple of sociologists from local universities ...

Why don't you freshen up your writing with interviews with other people, why not recruiting them here on Hive? Many interesting folks here and some probably worth to interview when it matches your theme.

I'm sure I will do that at some point. I was away from here for almost a year so I'm still getting to know everyone again but I can definitely see that happening. Right now I have a great deal of content written already that I want to post I'm just filling in some transitional parts of it. I plan on going after the tough topics. I mean right away I'm starting off with Sex and Religion Monday so that should definitely stir some conversation. The ultimate goal is definitely to write a book. The pattern will be much more obvious in a book than it will on Hive but I thought it was worth mentioning. It'll take a month or so to post all the parts from Observations on Sex and Religion which will start off with Religion and America. The sociology part is for the series I'm posting after that one entitled The New Tower of Babel. It starts of with a little section on society and culture
