The new copy is just that, a copy.

If you don't kill the original, the new copy is just a copy of the original. Why should killing the original change that?

In the old Star Trek series, their teleporter would beam people from one place to another. But weren't just making good copies and killing the original every time? And the copies thought they were the original just transported.
