"Proverbs are the palm oil with which words are eaten." Here is an echo from my ancestors.
"Owo imi'imagha ete eyin, isi'imagha eyin.
Ama anwaan owo isi'imagha ebe."
- An Ibibio Proverb
The above proverb has two parts that translate as,
If one does not love a child's father, he won't love the child.
One who loves another man's wife will not love the man.
I won't stress to explain these simple utterances of wisdom. The great Sun Tzu advised that you "know your enemy."
The Mandinka look at a similar philosophy from another point of view, thus:
"You may end a man's life, but his son becomes your new enemy."
