Hello, World.

in #philosophy7 years ago (edited)

As an introduction, you can call me any version of John, Johnny, Yiannis, or even Rubber if you like. (I hope at least some people will understand that last one - a futile attempt at bullying at school that I just found amusing!)

I currently work in the automotive industry. I guess I am obliged to add at this point that my views expressed on this platform are my own, and do not that represent those of any employer, institution or other corporate entity that I am a part of, past, future, or present.

My interests are very much wide-reaching, but my fascination is people. I have a fascination for the way humans behave and interact with each other as well as with the natural world around us. The differing languages, cultures and religions which are so interesting to me fortify my desire to travel the world in order to experience and comprehend all that I can about this wonderful pale blue dot.

Coming from an engineering background, I have an almost innate love of science and technology. There is no other way I would have found Steemit if it had not been for my delayed entry into the world of cryptocurrency. Even so, for some reason I shied away from programming/coding as much as I could whilst at university. This is something I regret and hence I am endeavouring to learn much about currently. This is all in the hope of being able to be the captain of my career, destiny and wealth and one that isn't condensed into a monotonous 9-5 routine for a global corporate where opportunities to live outside of someone else's dream is often in the 3-4 weeks annual leave you receive each year if you are lucky.

You are probably reading this thinking he is a cynic and a skeptic and you would be damn right. I couldn't be more different from the Greek Orthodox culture I was born and stamped into as a child -- by the way, I'm not sure which of Atheism and Veganism is more sacrilegious to it, either! However, the one thing I have learnt in my life is to question everything - never cease to ask why. Otherwise, you end up part of a flock, a sheep, not even understanding why you believe in what you do, no matter the absurdity of it. It does no harm to challenge your own beliefs: either they become strengthened; or you have opened your mind to an alternate view, have learned something new in the process which may help you think differently in the future.

Music is my other passion. Music does things for my mind that I can only associate to a way of finding inner peace in this crazy world that we live in and for that it will always be so special to me.

Anyway, I will soon begin posting on an eclectic mix of interesting things, to me at least, and hope others find them interesting enough to spend their valuable time on this precious planet to read about.

Peace out, world.

J.

Hello john, welcome to steemit. I also only found out about steemit very recently when i started gathering interest about bitcoin and such. Since then, i can never get off steemit and has abandoned facebook completely, i am sure you have a great time here. Have fun steeming :)

Hello! I deleted Facebook about 6 months to escape the Zuck and have never looked back since!

Appreciate your comment, it already seems this community is very friendly. What I also like is that there is no pressure on behalf of Steemit to know every facet of your life which is reassuring in the light of the privacy invasions we are currently experiencing!

Thanks, I look forward to "Steeming" - does remind me of my naive 18 year self and the days of going out on the town to get 'steaming' but oh well! Ha.

Best regards, catch you around!

You've got my upvote and follow. I come cruise "introduceyourself" posts when I've read enough crypto coin news for one day and try to find interesting people to add to my following list, using all sort of random criteria to decide, like do they live in an exotic or fascinating place and talk about what it's like there? Do they have shared hobbies with me? Do they sound like rational, reasonable adults? Are they funny?

You got me with the sheep/skepticism bit. You'll find plenty of both to observe here as well. See you in the steem!

Hello good sir!

Apologies for the late reply - life as they say and the man is grinding me down! We're making steps though and all will be better soon!

Very interesting to read that you have your own software company - I'd really enjoy talking about that with you. I'm currently sharpening up my programming skills and am starting to make some inroads into having my own business.

I shall begin to look into your MSP stuff too. Sounds interesting.

Speak soon and catch you around.

-Peace, J.

Folllowed!

Hi there and welcome to the community! I vegan atheist that's into science and engineering sounds like the exact type of person I'd follow and I'm looking forward to your future posts! :)

Same here, Dave! Enjoying your posts already!

I am yet to really get going on this yet but am enjoying the community so far. I have a feeling that my ramblings to myself on Evernote and such will most likely just end up on Steem xD

I personally had a relatively slow start posting and I still find myself more often in discussion in comments than posting original posts myself. I certinally do think that you can try all kinds of content here on Steem/Steemit and you can check what works and gets a response and what doesn't. It's often hit or miss, but I think the value of sharing your thoughts and engaging with people in this community while making some earning in the meantime is great.
