The wise are not wise because they make no mistakes. They are wise because they correct them.

in #philosophy7 years ago

I am human, I make mistakes. So do you, even if you pretend you don´t.

If you are a person who likes to make decisions, whether they could be good or bad, regardless of the outcome, odds are you will be regreting some of them.

I am one of those people. I prefer to make a choice even when I am not 100% sure that it is the right one, do you want to know why? Because I like to feel that false sense of control over my life. If I am going to succeed or fail, it is going to be because of my own decisions rather than out of someone else´s choices.

Why do I call it a false sense of control?

I am not going to go deep into the phylosphical entanglements within destiny or fate. I am not prepared nor I have the educational aspects to make a post about destiny. But I can speak about it out of my own experience.

My father has a saying: If it is for you, it´ll come even if you try to avoid it; if it´s not for you, it won´t come even if you strive to reach it.

I like that saying, it makes me feel that there is a stronger force above me, it makes me feel calm and relaxed; but on the other side, I don´t fully accept it.

I like to think - even when it might not be true - that I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul (Thanks for the quote Ernest Henley) and that every choice I´ve made since I am capable of reasoning, has taken me where I am today.

And I like where I am today

But I am nowhere near perfection. In fact I am far from it. There is always room for improvement whether it is regarding my soul, my body or my mind.

One thing I learnt over the years is that in order to grow, you have to admit your defeats, you have to recognize your failures, you have to embrace your mistakes and analyze where you might be wrong or where does the step back comes from.

If you identify where can you be better, you are one step ahead of your previous self - which is the only person you should be comparing yourself to - but that is only half the way.

You need to correct your mistakes. You must hold yourself accountable for them.

Think about it, if you don´t suffer the consequences of your actions, how will you be able to know if they were negative or positive deeds?

It is not enough to be able to embrace your failures, you have to accept the consequences that come along those failures, but you also have to man up - or woman up also? - and say sorry when it is the case. After that, you are good to go in the road of improving and correcting those defeats.

Saying sorry is not as bad as it sounds.

Another thing my father says to me very often: If today you made a mistake or did harm to someone else, whatever you do, do not act tomorrow as if nothing happened.

And you know what?

Out of all the advices my old man has given me, that one is the wisest, but also the hardest to follow through. I will admit it. I don´t say sorry very often nor I ask for forgiveness every day.

It is almost impossible to stand up in front of a person and say You were right, I was wrong, I am sorry, I will try to correct my behaviour/thoughts/actions.

But when you do it from the heart, it is one of the most liberating emotions. You feel ready to move on, you think of yourself as someone who is ready to grow, to improve, to become a better version of yourself.

There are a lot of ways to grow as a human being, but out of my own experience, the hardest but most fulfilling way is to accept you still have a lot to grow.

They way I see it, every mistake serves as a step in the ladder of life, you just have to know how to use it.

So yeah, don´t hesitate to embrace mistakes, to accept failures, to admit defeats...

Go grow.

Hello my friend. Long time it's been! Glad to see you still out there somewhere livin' life to the fullest as you do! Yes, I too believe in "we are the masters of our circumstances." It's like the person who knows that smoking will one day kill them but chooses to continue to chain smoke each and every day when alternatives exist. Choices/actions define us and what we focus on creates our realities IMO. I believe the power above you that you speak of is what I call the source of it all, better yet the "ALL." I believe that you are but a mere piece or spec of this source as is everything in the universe and beyond here such as a blade of grass is also in the field experiencing experiences for the source as is the human within life. I don't believe individual source life is laid out in some book somewhere predetermined but rather unknown and developed day by day through choices and circumstances within the reality we exist in. Interesting huh, as the ALL wants to experience even though it is all knowing. Everything from the smallest microscopic thing to the largest object known and unknown is an individual spec and part of the source experiencing creation making it's way back to the source eventually one day to become whole once again. In essence we are all alone or individual but yet we are all one and the same at the same time.............

Amazing post with positive thoughts. Keep it up @anomadsoul. upvoted

Thank you for this post.

Thank you for this post. The topic of errors is relevant to me.
I often feel sorry for the mistakes made.
Even wrote about this in his blog "life as a trip"

In addition, the topic of errors is related to the theme of "right actions" and "wrong actions". Also related to the choice. With responsibility.

I like the design of your post.

I like how this post is designed. It is broken into small parts. Which are titled according to the meaning. And easy to read. And easy to understand.

You need to correct your mistakes. You must hold yourself accountable for them.

I remember this again and again. And when I remember and sincerely accept, the situation is resolved.

It is almost impossible to stand up in front of a person and say You were right, I was wrong, I am sorry, I will try to correct my behavior / thoughts / actions.

Oh!

They way I see it, every mistake serves as a step in the ladder of life, you just have to know how to use it.

These words are really very important. These words inspire. These words support.

@anomadsoul - Well said my friend. It is absolutely essential that we take decisions without procrastination but at the same time, also be ready to accept and act upon the consequences. We need to really accept that no one is perfect and be ready to correct our course, including saying sorry to others (and sometimes to ourselves).
Your post makes me introspect. Thanks. Upvoted.

@vm2904

first @vm2904, cool lion. 2nd @anomadsoul great perspective!

it is very difficult to find people who give motivation to life in post in steemit. what you say I strongly agree and have experienced it..
I like the motivation of your father. and my family has also advised me on this.. every man has his problem .. and he will be more mature when he got through it !!.

the wise words that must be done in life

If it is for you, it´ll come even if you try to avoid it; if it´s not for you, it won´t come even if you strive to reach it.

If today you made a mistake or did harm to someone else, whatever you do, do not act tomorrow as if nothing happened.

words of wisdom we must do, because God does not give the burden to the ummah but according to the ability. 😊😊

I like your father's quote, We are not perfect, we learn from our own mistakes. @anomadsoul 😊😊

making mistakes is part of taking risks and going the road different than people around you. I made many mistakes but nothing what would destroy the life. They are just learning experiences, something what pushes me in the direction I planned, but maybe will lead to something even more interested. I sometimes think, if leaving my steady job as an architect and following the dreams of building cool objects was one of them. But then I met so many cool people through making what I do and discovered new ways of leaving, opened new door and possibilities. Now I am on steemit :)

You are a very wise person. In your words, the truth is hidden, in the search for which many people take their lives. And you have already comprehended it and try to teach others and remind those who have lost their way in search. Good luck to you and kind.

Вы очень мудрый человек. В Ваших словах скрыта истина, на поиски которой у многих уходит жизнь. А Вы ее уже постигли и пробуете научить других и напомнить тем, кто заблудился в поисках. Удачи Вам и добра.

absolutely loved the post. But you know what, sorry has lost all its value these days. We say sorry because we agree to the fact that we did wrong and we do regret it. But these days, people are tossing sorry like its no big deal at all. My Mother always used to tell me, "sorry and Thank you are very important words in life. Never use them in inappropriate places or for people who doesn't deserve it at all. At the same time, also never forget to use them when you are supposed to. If you do that correctly, you are a good human by nature". It is sad to see its been used recklessly. But such a wise post dear one. I'm a newbie here and you got yourself a new follower <3 will be checking this space for more amazing content

I strongly agree with what you say @anomadsoul, because what our parents say is for the good not the other way around. I always appreciate the wisdom of the parents, because that is the best way for us to obey me as you say. Then related destiny I'm sure it's all for sure, but we do not know for sure how our destiny is, so we have to try and work hard and take risks in this life.

@safwaninisam

Nice wise article. To take responsibility for their lives - we have to do it. To admit their mistakes, because we are not perfect. There are no perfect people. Honestly admit their mistakes, their faults - is the best solution. Try to take responsibility and fix them. To work on becoming better. And not to put on his face a false mask of virtue. I don't like people who pretend to be sinless. To make in life something bad and wrong - is the destiny of every human being. But unfortunately, not everyone can recognize himself created evil, and to fix it. You will not be able to conquer your fears, vices and negative traits, yet do not recognize that they are in you. And only by recognizing this we are able to become better and to go forward to new achievements.

This post I must confess is unique in it's totality. I have seen other posts, but this stands out. The simplicity, straight forwardness are absolutely outstanding. A powerful write-up you put up there Sir! Your dad- a very wise man beyond all standards. Another wise man once said" if you are not making any mistakes, then you are not trying anything new in this life". When it comes to remorse, it is said that " a person is truly sorry when you notice a changed behavior in that person". Another quote from your dad that got to me is " if it is meant to be, it will be"(paraphrased). Thank you for such wisdom. God bless You!

  • "It is almost impossible to stand up in front of a person and say You were right, I was wrong, I am sorry, I will try to correct my behaviour/thoughts/actions."
People accuse others turn a blind eye to the incident, depict a lack of understanding, the conversation is transferred from their shortcomings on the shortcomings of others.
It's hard to do only the very first time. It looks like - how to overcome himself, his cowardice, an attempt to evade responsibility for their actions and deeds. Some people see this as humiliation. They are wrong. But , even if you perceive it that way, you can force yourself to stoop to rise in their eyes and the eyes of other people.
Once to fall, then to rise. It's worth it. I remember the feeling of overcoming yourself and admitting their mistakes. When I did it the first time. This state of ease, a victory over oneself . I felt like I climbed another step up. It is a nice feeling. Self-development is impossible without the ability to admit mistakes and the desire to work on them. It is an experience and a step towards personal growth. Thanks for this post.

As they say, what is of the priest goes to the church.

Very nice your post and if I start thinking sometimes I do not ask for much forgiveness and I have the bad habit of thinking that I am not wrong in some things and the end is the opposite :(

we must reflect and work on those bad habits, taking advantage of the fact that it is the beginning of a new year.

Like every child you heard a lot of wise advises from your father but that time we never really think about that and while we grow up, making our family and like you said yourself making own decision we on and off come back to that memory when you had been told and warned earlier but even though made that decision that you made. It is a human nature we learn better on our mistakes as it burns up a print in our brain and one probably never does it second time. Also what I like from your post, the advice of your father to admit mistake and say sorry, again I think everyone understands that this is a right thing to do but do we always do it when or just try to ignore it and hope that tomorrow everything will be better then today :)

Can u believe I read the intro for like five times. It my favorite coat now. "I am human, and I make mistakes, even if you pretend you don't.
Mistakes only makes as perfect if we decide to learn from it. I think that is how God created man. There is no way we can escape from mistakes. It is there to build us, to make us strong, to put us on the right path etc. Thanks for sharing man

Hello really no body is perfect in this world we are all sinner in words in action and all aspect in life.i was saying if my brother leaving her girlfriend with a baby in her tomb. and after a couple of years the baby growing up with her mother never told her who is her father, and the girl which Is my friend. after a year she was hiding her daughter to me. 5 years passing by. accidentally meted her with my cute 7 years old niece. I greeted her and kisses my niece which she refuse because she never remember me. then I was hurt. and talking to her mother. I told her. even my brother leaving you, do not take me with his mistake.because your child mistreated with your sin. it is sin to our God because if you and my brother committed a mistake. do not despair me. because she is my blood too. and she deserve my caring as her Aunt. the reality of this story is of because of the misconduct of others they judge us.they called false out of control. we can't forces anybody to threatened us great even we are not in the same feather. so forgive and admit mistake is one of the God will in our heart. thank you for your great personality because your father made you as today as a great person. and I am happy to your motivation in life. Congratulation. @anomadsoul

Very true, my father always taught me saying 'don't put had I known at the end of a decision made or action taken, always put them before you take the action', failing doesn't make you a failure, saying sorry doesn't make you a lesser person, it only means you're wise, soft words calm anger, no regrets for tomorrow, no living in the past but recognise that you're here because of that past. Make corrections and know that you're in no competition with anyone but yourself, improve yourself daily, be a better you...... Life is your race, run in your lane.

There are a lot of great comments here for this post but this one rings true to me. Well said..........

Thank you so much

Really trully! I have myself proven me wrong very often in life! Dropped college three times so I have at least three big failures... but when you understand that failing it is on the way to success you have to make decisions and you must learn from it no matter what the outcome is and as you said MAKE CORRECTIONS!. Learned this too late in life...

Reading these lines is the question, will we be totally wise someday?
There is a biblical proverb that says aoira el sabio and will increase knowledge.
so we have a lot of wisdom, we also err, greetings, good post!

Epic. This post is epic. Thanks for sharing this. It's amazing how we most times try to shy away from our mistakes and not accept the reality of the fact that we messed up but in all we all grow into the eventuality of knowing we are the real architects of our own destiny l. Now, that time might be too late to recover for someone who has lived in the deceit of people being the ones to blame for their shortcomings. I love the quote by your father but like you said, we now have a better understanding of the fact that we are the builders and determinants of how our destinies turn out. We don't blame anyone for who we eventually become. Just like you, I am happy, very happy at where I am right now but I know I am still a work in progress and being far from perfection doesn't mean I am growing to be perfect. I think I am just trying to be better than myself everytime. Thanks for sharing this.

I like your father's quote:

If it is for you, it´ll come even if you try to avoid it; if it´s not for you, it won´t come even if you strive to reach it.

We are not perfect, we learn from our own mistakes.

One of us came across a book titled "Best Place to Work"- and it also shares that for the work environment to be conducive for growth, there must be a culture of error-acceptance.

In that way, you will be motivated to still try to innovate on something without the fear of trial. Mistakes, when managed properly can lead to greatness.

Appreciate this. Thanks for sharing what your father had advised you. Experiencing failures and defeats indeed make us strong. I would also like to add that having the endurance and perseverance would allow each of us to reach our goals in life, no regrets to something which at one point made you happy.

Xoxo,
junebride

Mistakes are part of life, no one goes through life without making at least a mistake.
The most important part of mistake is holding oneself accountable, accepting responsibility of the mistake and correcting the effect of it.
Thanks for this great post @anomadsoul.

Most times we get stuck and never move for the fear of making mistakes. This is a simple call to make that move irrespective of the successes or failures ahead. Just keep moving

@anomadsoul Thanks for the advice :) I used to be hate being a failure but not anymore ;) I started to enjoy making mistakes!

.....to stand up in front of a person and say You were right, I was wrong, I am sorry, I will try to correct my behavior/thoughts/actions. But when you do it from the heart, it is one of the most liberating emotions.

Absolutely true. Like a weight has been lifted off your back.

Nice one man, Sunday philosophy session :)

A really wise post. It is so true that is hard for humans to admit that they have made a mistake, especially to admit it to themselves. But is also true that we learn from failure, even more than from things we did right. Recognizing the problem is the first step to recovery. Reviewing our actions helps us to develop our character and to become a better person. Your father is a really wise person, I will remember these advise! Thank you for sharing these meaningful words :)

yes, that's totally right my brother, I like the way you take the action. you have somene who have a great of words stand with you.
but the interesting is you can analyze the step to take the action. I like your words, we don't need to beg a forgiveness everytime, the things that we should do is to prove it with the action. let the actions shout/tell them that we are really-really regret. have a nive day @anomadsoul

Mistakes and failures make us and for us to be successful we need to fail countless times.. i always believe it that way. no matter what happens, you will learn from it.. thanks @anomadsoul for sharing your thoughts! You inspire alot of Steemians including me! :) a million thanks to you! :)

Your post is really wise. It's true it's hard to admit a mistake and we learn from our mistakes!
Your father is a very wise person!
Thanks for sharing your father's words, I appreciate this!

Those words could come from my mouth !

Good article and nice profile :)

In order to correct our mistakes we must be humble enough to first accept them.

Because te impossible for someone to fix their mistakes if they don’t even realize they have made them.

So humbleness and honesty with oneself is key in order to grow as a person.

being humble nowadays seems to very hard!! That is why people do not accept failures.

These are all Words to live by! Thank you sir @anomadsoul 👏👏👏

I support you

Yeah... I am agree with you because i'm human tooo.. I like u quote wiseword. And I'm still wrong everywhere, anywhere.. Hhaha

If it is for you, it´ll come even if you try to avoid it; if it´s not for you, it won´t come even if you strive to reach it.

There is a famous song from Hong Kong that has lyrics with exactly the same meaning
命裡有時終須有,命裡無時莫強求

This is so true. How you understand life without problems and how you understand your life problems. I want to share a film about this topic about life and second chances.

What a nice article! Such a good read! Thank u for sharing your thoughts

Thank you for a wise advice, I try to work at myself though it is very difficult for me sometimes to accept that I was wrong in something.

Life and mistakes goes together, you cannot live without making lots of mistakes, even the wise make mistakes but the the ability to correct these mistakes is what make them wise.

AMAZIIIIIING, I FOLLOW YOU!!!

Your father is a wise man. I really like this post. I've been struggling with the control you speak of giving up. Thank you for upvoting my post. I am very grateful
