Do What I Say or Burn: "God's" Unconditional Love

in #philosophy8 years ago (edited)

The religious person is always telling themselves and others that the devil and the world is most cunning, the great deceiver. The argument these people make is that these lies and deceptions will be very convincing and will feel almost natural and easy to accept because the devil is such a good liar that lies will seem like truth. The religious person believes that your senses and natural, biological desires should be ignored because you cannot trust them, and let's not forget, you are a sinner and you cannot trust yourself. That is why you must put all your faith in God, or what authority figures more knowledgeable in such things tell you what God desires you to do and be. You must throw away all empiricism and instead "have faith in God".

What kind of cruel god would give us senses that actually work against us and which the same god will doom us to eternal damnation and pain for following? How did the devil, and the world, and our senses become so deceptive and so successful at it? Why would a god that "loves you unconditionally" make you so utterly unprepared to resist lies on our own and be completely dependent on "him" because our own bodies, minds, and senses are actively working to deceive us? Bodies and senses and minds that he supposedly created for us. Because he loves us... Unconditionally... Except, if you don't live the way "he" wants you to, you'll burn forever. Because "he" loves you...

It all seems very questionable to me. Maybe the truth is that the person or persons telling us to ignore all our senses and reasoning abilities and ignore ourselves to surrender our being to their faith-based "truth" are the real deceivers. Why else would we be asked to let go of all reasoning and scientific thought in favor of unreasonable and proscribed universal answers that are not up for debate? The only way that these "truths" can survive is if people have taken them on faith and believe it is wrong to even question them. That the very senses that we would use to question them are suspect and in kahoots with "the greatest deceiver of all" and alone we cannot possibly find truth on our own, so we must blindly accept this "truth" given to us by "god" and deny everything we truly are in the process. There is a reason the world and our senses feel convincing because that is the only way one can actually begin to find truth in our world. We must stop and be wary of any man or woman or group of people that tells us the only way to find truth is to give up our reasoning abilities and follow them, err I mean "God", without question, religious, statist, or otherwise. Thanks for reading. I would love to here your comments and ideas on the matter! See you next time!
